Think colors. Bright veggies are great for snacking. Buy whatever is in season and cut it into manageable sized pieces. Veggies and fat free cottage / string cheese is awesome. Buy a big box of cereal and portion it out into snack bags (paying attention to serving sizes). Drinking water is great. And free on campus. While in college, free is really good. Pretzels are good too. I'm trying to think of all the things that are easy to transport and college budget friendly...
If you do go fast food, go for a salad. They're everywhere, and gigantic. Or go to Subway instead of a burger spot. If you go to a place that actually has plates, only eat half of your food. Take the rest home and eat it later. Portions are usually more than enough for two servings. Speaking of portions, do some research on portion control.
Have you considered keeping a food diary? You'd write down everything you ate for each day. You could even write down the nutritional info for each food.
Good luck!
