Getting a DVD like that is fine if you've had constant and open communication beforehand and you mutually agreed to the idea of getting it, but as it stands it'd be more like a gesture of "you suck, here's something you can do about it, I'm gonna go have a sandwich, see you later." It's just as much YOUR responsibility to help he please you as it is hers to try to please you.
