an iPod is the Apple brand Hard-Drive based music player. aka mp3 player (though it can play other formats).
Other companies also make these players, but they are not called iPod. They get other stupid names like Zen Touch and Nomad.

I have NEVER had my iPod skip on me. EVER. I think the buffer on it is something like 40 minutes =P .. I take it running and hiking alot too, and no problem. Maybe cheaper HD based players skip, but I don't hear of it happening very often with iPods. On the flip, I decided the MiniDisc player I owned was way too fragile to take on any real adventures.
