the simple fact that marketing has progressed to this level is a function of free market economy. evolution of competition. want scary? this MRI stuff has been around for years. it has yeilded precious little utility in developing a practical marketing application. the next generation marketing tools and methods are pretty sick.
so, you get the perceived malignent feeling that you're being controlled by corporations and forced unwittingly against your will to purchase products and services you might not normally buy or in the volumes that you might otherwise consume them. sure this is a possibility...but i still worry more about cancer and aids than i do about some marketing schmuck trying to get me to buy 5% more shampoo or ultra whitening toothpaste. i have no fear of marketing. if you've been to business school, you know those that chose marketing as thier profession couldnt pass a statistics or finance class if thier lives depended on it. for the most part anyway. so i have no fear of them and thier designs. no matter how sinister.
so this brain monitoring and mind control stuff is a less than desirable side affect of free market economies. the positives still for outweigh the negatives though. and will continue to for as long as people value the incredible advancements in technology, medicine, safety, education ect... that free market economies manifest.
