Mu rickenbacker weighs next to nothing, but it sounds fantastic and actually is durable as hell.
not a great starter guitar, though. My first electric was an epi dot (semihollow body) I loved it and I still use it from time to time. Mexican strats are also good for starters (you can always upgrade without feeling guilty if you're only paying ~$250 for an axe.
Also, there's a brand called Cort out there somewhere. They look great and sound pretty nice for the price.
