Being a newcomer to this forum, I found this thread quite interesting. Each of you has his or her own beliefs, and that is what made me decide to make this post my first.
I was pregnant with my second child in the summer of 1985. My daughter had just turned 3. One day, I was standing at the sink washing up the lunch dishes, when I heard my daughter giggling in her room. I just listened and grinned at the sound of a child's laughter. This went on for about 15 minutes. I called to her, and asked her what she was doing. She didn't answer me. Once again I called out to her, and I heard her say, "Bye, come see me again", and I heard her smack her lips as if she were giving a kiss.
When she came into the kitchen, I asked her who she had been talking to. She looked at me and said, "I was talking to MawMaw, her gave me a kiss because her had to go back to heaven". There was a faint pink glow of lipstick on my daughter's right cheek. I was floored. My mother had passed away in 1980 from cancer. My daughter had no idea who "MawMaw" was at that point in her life. As I continued to question my daughter, she described to me the dress that my mother had been buried in, and then took me to her room and said, "Smell that? That's MawMaw's perfume." Sure enough, there was the odor of the Shalimar that my mother always wore. I didn't have any in the house, but that familiar odor was there.
Scared?? A little at first, but then I realized that my mother was still around; she was able to see the grandchildren that she had never gotten to see, and to me that was a very comforting and warm feeling.
My mother has visited my niece on several occasions too, and as always, that familiar scent of Shalimar lingers even when we don't know she's there.
