Good points, but the problem with terrorism leading up to 9/11 is that it was going from frustrated lone assassins and whispered conspiracies (see L. H. Oswald and Timothy McVeigh/Terry Nichols, respectively) to organizations with a large, and growing, membership (see al Qaeda). I do agree that a "war on terror" is like fighting
Hydra, but al Qaeda et al. need to be dealt with. As I see it, war with Afghanistan was a step forward, war with Iraq was two steps back.
