Kyra's story
This is something I have been working on for a while now. Please give me some feedback.
Kyra never stood out in a crowd. She wasn’t drop dead gorgeous or overly intelligent. There was only one thing that wasn’t normal about her. She was over two hundred years old and her heart didn’t exactly beat like a normal person’s should. Kyra was a member of the un-dead, a child of the night, a vampire. However, she still felt like something was missing in her life, something she just couldn’t place her finger on. She had men flocking to her by the hundreds, worshiping at her feet, but it was all just so meaningless. After being immortal for a few centuries, drugs just don’t have the same appeal.
Every night Kyra would go out looking for her meal. Sometimes she would go to the local trendy club, full of drunken frat boys and girls hammered after two beers. Just for a kick, she would occasionally go to the country western bar and look for a ripped cowboy that she could ride all night and feed on all day. More often than not, she would go to the goth club. Not only was it close by, right around the corner from her renovated warehouse, but those were the people she felt the most comfortable around. A handful of them actually knew her secret. These were people she considered her best friends, but by conventional standards there were more like acquaintances. It was just hard for Kyra to relate to mortals. These people lived like they were running a race, as if they had to get as much done as possible in the span of their fleeting lives. Kyra vaguely remembered what it was like to live in their shoes. It had been so long and times were so different.
The year that was Kyra was born, in the traditional sense, was 1784. She was born in Paris to an affluent family. She had every luxury a girl could want: servants, gourmet meals, even her own pony. At the tender age of 18, she was, in a way, sold into a marriage to a boy she had known her entire life. Luckily for Kyra, Ryan was not old enough to be her father like some of the other arranged marriages she had seen. A small number of years separated the two newlyweds. After a few years of marriage she grew to love him, even it was only from a lack of options. She bore him two children, a strong boy and a dainty girl. It seemed like the perfect life. In 1809, that all changed. That was the year Kyra met Cade. He was a traveling actor from Scotland. From the moment Kyra met him at the reception for the theatre company, she couldn’t stop thinking about him.
His long black hair contrasted perfectly with his alabaster skin. When he walked into a room, he automatically became the center of attention. His perfect posture accentuated his amazing physique. The one feature that Kyra was truly drawn to was his eyes. They were the perfect color of sky blue and she felt like they looked right through her. After a few hours of meaningless chit-chat with her fellow party goers, Kyra went outside for a breath of fresh air. After only a few minutes alone, she heard a voice behind.
“You are truly a magnificent creature.”
Kyra whirled around and found her self face to face with Cade.
“ ’Tis such a pity you are married to such a dull, lifeless, pitiful excuse for a man.”
“Excuse me sir, that is my husband you are speaking of and I do not appreciate hearing him dragged through the mud.”
“My deepest apologizes madam. I only meant to say that a radiant being such as yourself should be with a man who has traveled to India and back, someone who is exciting and enchanting, and knows how to please a woman in every aspect of life.”
Kyra felt her face flush, not so much from modesty but of the thoughts that Cade was putting in her head. She wanted to know how he could please her in every aspect of her life. Before she could say a word, Cade kissed her passionately on the lips. Her common sense told her to pull away from him and give him a good slap on the face, but her heart wouldn’t comply. It was wonderful to kiss a man and for the first time feel like she was floating. Finally, she pulled away out of fear of being caught. Cade smiled slyly.
“If you wish to continue this m’lady, I am stay at the Hotel Brisbone, room 318. For as long as I am hear, I am yours.”
With those words, he left. Kyra could still with his lips on hers, his tongue tangoing with hers, and the feelings they provoked in her. The rest of the night she wrestled with her conscience. Part of her desperately wanted to go and spend the entire night, or even the rest of her life with him. The logical part of her brain chastised her for being so frivolous and flighty. She reminded herself that not only was she a prominent member of the community but she also had two young children who she could never abandon, not even for those feelings.
For the next two weeks, Kyra could do nothing but think of Cade. She kept replaying the scene from the party over and over in her mind. Finally, she gave into her urges and desires. One afternoon, when the children had been put down for their nap, she told the servants she was going riding. After she got her horse from the stables, she galloped into the heart of the city. The Hotel Brisbone was a known boarding place for actors, playwrights, artists, novelists and any other destitute, artistic souls that needed a cheap place to stay. A refined lady such as Kyra had never actually stepped foot inside the hotel, so to see such revolting conditions almost made her turn around and go back to her huge mansion. It was the need to see Cade that motivated her up the stairs and to room 318. She paused at the door for a moment, contemplating her actions. As she lifted her arm to knock, the door swung open and there he stood. Kyra couldn’t help but stare at his half naked body. It was Cade that spoke first.
“You are a sight for sore eyes, m’lady.”
“Uh, thank you. I am here because I cannot get you out of my mind. I-“
With that Cade put his finger to her lips and shushed her. With his other arm he motioned her to come in. Entranced by his eyes and her feelings, she complied. Her eyes swept the room with a look of disgust on her face. Before she could say a word, Cade came up behind her and started to undress her. Kyra let him. She gave into her desires, her need for true love, romance and passion. Eventually he led her to the bed and there Kyra experienced true passion for the first time in her entire life. She was so entranced by him and their love making that she failed to see the dead body on the other side of the bed with fresh teeth marks on her neck.
Every day for the next three months, Kyra went to Cade. He was like an addiction; she couldn’t seem to stop herself from going to him. One day, she came to him a bit earlier than usual. As she let herself into the room, like she always did, she stopped dead in her tracks. On the bed lay a lifeless woman and Cade was on top of her sucking her neck. After she screamed his name, he looked up at her. She stared at him, her mouth agape. This wasn’t the face of her lover; this was the face of a monster. His eyes were glowing, his face was contorted, and his front teeth were enlarged and hung past his lower lip. He smiled evil at her, inadvertently showing her more of his gleaming teeth. She turned around as fast as she could and ran down the hall and out of the Hotel Brisbone. She grabbed her horse and galloped all the way back to her house, not looking back until she was safely on the front steps. The rest of the day she spent in fear and paranoia. She could not shake the image of his face from her mind.
