I thought you'd never ask, in no particular order:
1. Boards of Canada - Music has the Right to Children
2. Autechre - Amber
3. Aphex Twin - Richard D. James Album
4. Plaid - Double Figure
5. Mu-ziq - Brace Yourself
6. Bexarametric - Bexarametric Pressure LP
7. to rococo rot. - Hotel Morgen
8. Venetian Snares - Winter in the Belly of a Snake
9. Amon Tobin - Supermodified
10. Orbital - Middle of Nowhere
Upon finishing the list, I would say that although the list is in no particular order, I would highly recommend you buy Music has the Right to Children first. I feel that is IDM defined. I put 10 unique items on the list, not wanting to have it full of any one "artist." I could have done a 10 best Autechre albums, but that wouldn't have been fair. Definitely start with Music... and give that time to work over you. You will be immersed in what feels like a new world. After this, I would go to Twoism next, you'll love that, and then pick up Geogaddi. That might take some getting used to. It took me several weeks of listening to warm up to that, but I absolutely love it now. If you want to make the "dive" into Autechre, it would be insane to start anywhere else but Amber. A trip to the psych ward will ensue if you start on some of the newer stuff. Move onto Incunabula after Amber enraptures you. Take two and call me in the morning.
