The book I'm writing ids VERY DARK. I need your opinion

I started my third novel a few months ago. It is a new area for me and I am a little concerned it may be a bit too dark. Meaning, it contains, a serial killer, rape scenes, graphic reconstruction of murders and a strong sexual undertone. Is there still a market for this kind of book?
My last two books where more along the lines of secret militray operations ie, Delta Force, etc, etc.
I am almost afraid to hand this one off to the publisher, in fear they may think I've lost my mind. I don't think I have????
I should be wrapping it up in the next few weeks. I will admit, however, it's a well written book. I have even surprised myself a bit on the amount of detail my mind can conger up on such horrific actions.
If I had to sum up the writting style, I would say a mix between Stephen King, Patricia Cromwell meets Penthouse Forum.]
I plan on pushing some heavy marketing on this book. It is my best one yet. I just need your opinion about these kinds of novels. Don't get me wrong, I know people still read this style, but is society changing our reading habits? So much for "Free Speech, when I question my own boundries and limits.
