Yes, you're right, there is the possibility that an alien race visiting Earth may operate on completely different wavelengths than humans. Different perceptions, different emphasis on certain things.
Theoretically we could be visited by a race of alien's that were no larger than fleas, they might arrive at earth and completely miss the hulking beasts that are man. The possibilities are virtually endless.
Which would actually suck more than anything. We're being visited by a highly advanced race from somewhere out in the galaxy and they're so alien they don't even recognize us as sentient life forms.
