I'm not really sure I understand this comment, but if you mean that America owes
all its liberties (if you will) to the "blood of countless others", then that's complete nonesense.
Yes, there was a revolution. But after than, the US has
legislated for most of its laws. The US, unlike most countries in Europe, have never had to fight to defend their homeland or repel invaders. That's a good thing (before anyone starts accusing me of anti-Americanism).*

It wasn't a cheap shot. It was a joke. I was going to include a "unless you want to show your knickers" in the body of the post but I thought (justifiably as it turned out) that most people would see the pun and not react inappropriately.
