a friend of mine is an attendant for United. From the stories she told me it's a rigorous training period that is UNPAID. It lasted about 6 months and it required her to move from LA to Texas.
She's now an attendant but low man on the totem pole she doesn't get all the requested routes she wants and usually gets the 6th to 10th choice. It's only after 5 years can you finally get up to a point where you can pick where you want to go.
