I can't find the actual link, but there are many different things that can cause a change in odor, where you are in your menstrual cycle, pregnancy, infection (if you are itchy it could be either Vaginitis or Bacterial Vaginitis), change in diet, change in stress level, change in hormone level (Have you switched methods of birth control?) even aging.
Or your boyfriend could just be really tactless.
But I'd stil go immediately to the doctor.

This is right on. Any time that I notice a fishy smell down there I know I'm in for another bout of BV. It's really more common than Yeast infections but it often doesn't cause any more symptoms than a fishy smell or mild irritation. It can cause a PAP smear to come back abnormal because the irritation causes cell changes that show up. It's not a serious condition and there are usually no complications. My Dr gave me a prescription for an antibacterial vaginal cream. There are 3 kinds. I use Cleosin but sometimes by the third day I can tell it's irritating me. Then there's a 7 day treatment that is a little milder but because it's longer it seems to do a good job for me. I just refill my prescription when I need another treatment. I have to get a new prescription every year when I have my yearly physical. One reason that my Dr gave me for my problem with developing this is that my Ph is altered by the BCP's that I take and it makes me for susceptable to normal bacteria found in my body.
Get thee to a physican and you should be able to get rid of SO's complaints.
