That sucks. It's almost a crapshoot whether or not the cop will give you a ticket. Having a clean driving record tips the odds in your favour a little, but there's always the chance the cop will give you the ticket (having bad day, filling quota, etc)
I've gotten away with a ticket and gotten nailed with a ticket. There is nothing worse than waiting for the cop to come back from his car to find out whether or not your wallet is gonna be lighter.
