I find this post highly ironic. Mods having to warn people on their own thank you thread.
So to return this thread to its original purpose, I personally think the mods are great. I've posted in many politics forums and this is by far the most interesting, thought-provoking, and productive (in the sense of drawing out important points about issues and reaching concensus).
Politics is an inherently difficult issue to discuss civily. Discussions about money, sexuality, even religion are far easier because they deal with essentially private issues. We can disagree on them and it will not affect our lives. Politics, on the other hand, deals with things we must decide colectively. If I disagree with you on these public issues
but you win it will affect my life. Combine this fact with the anonymity the internet offers and the fact that those of us who seek out places to discuss them have strongly held views and you get a very dangerous situation.
Yet despite these inherent difficulties, TFP has a decent politics discussion. And that is in no small part due to the excellent modding.
