they have other channels in the MTV Family that accommodate that market. Rock? MTV2 Headbangers Ball. Don't get it? Ask your cable operator how you can get it. It's usually part of the Digital Suite which includes about 5 different MTV channels.
edit: If you follow neilsens you'd see that the audience is GROWING, not fleeing.
remember the key demographic for MTV is 14-26, VH1 is 24-46
