A lot of the guys I know who do "guy talk" stuff do it when they feel there are certain things they can't talk about in front of a "lady." Typical reasons for this are: a) what they want to say is not PC, b) they want to talk about topic that a girl might consider "gross," or c) they want to talk about the "lady."
Personally, I think this is really fucking lame. One time, this guy (relatively new in our social circle) made reference to a story he told "the guys" earlier in the day, but I missed it. I wanted to hear the anecdote and he said he couldn't tell me because I was a girl. Because I was pissed off about him using my femaleness as an excuse not to tell me a story, I didn't leave him alone until he told me the story. When he finally told me the story, it turned out to be really super lame and cliché after all the buildup. I should note that no other guy in the group would have had any issues with telling me the story.
Anyways, the number one reason I really dislike the exclusion of most women from the "guys'" group is because this is where you get to see what their humor is really like. If their humor isn't what you find funny in the least bit, then at least you know where you stand and you can find new friends if you don't like it. For instance, a group of people I know think it's really funny to crack jokes using terms like "nigger," "sandnigger," etc. Not my kind of humor or mentality, so I moved on.
And guys, girl talk is the best way to learn about girls and their friends. Sure, they may talk about things you don't want to hear about like tampons, pads, and cramps which may turn out to be extremely educational for those who didn't take sex ed. in elementary school, or if you have any questions about the female anatomy that would be the perfect time to ask. However, they talk about other things that might turn out to be jewels of knowledge like who uses birth control and what kind, what kind of guys they like, who they like, what kind of gifts they find romantic or impressive, what they don't like, etc.
