It's funny you say that. When Peter Bondra was still up for grabs, both Ottawa and Toronto were making some serious bids for the All-Star player. Toronto lauded Bondra as a coveted addition to their team like he was the hockey Messiah. However, once Ottawa landed the deal, suddenly Bondra became merely old and washed up (on a team that should rightfully be called the Toronto Geriatrics).
With Bondra no longer available, suddenly it was Sergei Gonchar who would be their saviour, at least until it looked like Boston would be the ones to pick him up. Then he simply became "too expensive".
They finally managed to get Leetch, followed by Francis, and suddenly they act like they're going to single-handedly bring Toronto the Cup.
