There's been a whole lot of chatter in the 928 community about this one. Look for another front-engined, water-cooled 8 cylinder car around 2007.
As for the HP claims of 500 or more, it seems entirely reasonable. The last 928 in 1995 was normally aspirated at 5.4L and produced 345 HP. 12 more years of technological advancements, and maybe a turbo or supercharger would make 500 HP pretty easy to accomplish.
Since they've got the V8 Porsche Cayenne Turbo, it doesn't take a big leap of faith to assume that this new engine will make it into a car. It won't be in the next 911 since the 911 purists would hate it as much as they hated the 928 the first time around.
And since the last 928s to roll of the assembly line 10 years ago carried a showroom sticker of $100K+, it's a good bet it'll be priced well north of the 911 Turbo and GT3, but below the Carrera GT.
Throughout it's production run, the 928 was Porsche's most expensive model.
