The difference is that he has so much more he can draw from; he could take on a couple A-rod-sized contracts and still make a hefty profit due to the media deals he has. Other teams don't have that kind of base to draw from, and being businessmen controlling an investment, often just don't spend and keep whatever money they bring in just to make a profit.
