    Yes
Most experts are calling it tribalism these days.
It’s not about right or wrong
    It’s them vs us
    Yankees vs Red Sox

Not about consequences but who wins and loses

Trump Covering Up Scheme to Use Justice Department to Punish CNN

So do media giants back down when there’s an attempt to intimidate them???

    Not the biggies
They usually double down and use their investigation staff to make it worse...

    Why???
First, they have the resources and money
(especially when you’re owned by billionaires)

    Second, they know you’re bloody
You’re an easy mark, they know they hit their target
    It’s a shark feeding frenzy...digging, digging, digging

Last...it makes them fucking MORE money
    If it bleeds, it leads
They live for this, it gets headlines, airtime, etc
And awards...this crap goes in the history books

    So, he’s a fool
    But we knew that already

There’s a reason the call the media the fourth estate

You just pissed off the people that put your face up there
For good or bad...and it’s going to get a hotter.
    Enjoy hell on earth

This administration and the Tea Party conservative movement before it have exposed a lot of flaws and weaknesses in the system. And that it was never setup to handle someone who commits so many crimes and scandals, yet delivers on specific political issues for their base and has enough support to remain in power with no consequences.

Here Are 20 Headlines Comparing Meghan Markle To Kate Middleton That Might Show Why She And Prince Harry Are Cutting Off Royal Reporters — BuzzFeed News

Now this is the UK version
But it shows how media can bend a story

    For good or ill
    One way or another...

    And they can be biased

So you don’t wanna be on their bad side
    Rather be their darling

Now, I don’t know why they’d go after Megan
She’s always been the sweetest thing

But when the tabloids smell blood
And know they can make money from controversy
    Get ready for a hailstorm

    Some say it’s Racist
Personally I think it’s because she’s not from the UK

But I wonder if the Royals or the respect for them
Presses to repress a negative story
And they didn’t get the umbrella as others did

I know Charles was under the gun for a long time
    ...of his own making

Then again, the tabs love a good juicy Royal story
For any of them...except the Queen
Even her husband gets zapped for his mouth

Still, the media can pull and twist a story

We see much of Fox or MSNBC play it to their base

And I’ve seen a lot of Yahoo lately, being tabloid-like
And the story doesn’t get close to the inferred headline

So...it comes down to reading various stories
And putting on your thinking cap

...something many aren’t into doing themselves

Trump Suggests NPR Shouldn’t Exist After Heated Mike Pompeo Interview

    Aww, someone’s feelings got hurt
He had to answer difficult questions

Not that it’s his job or anything...

T administration will simply make them suffer like all the other unwanted and unfavored children
    EPA, NOAA, Etc...

It’s not like NPR hasn’t weathered haters before
The entity will survive...they’ll just lose good people, like the others.

He can’t do too much damage with the House in Dem control
    They do appropriations/funding
Both branches would have to approve it being closed

NPR does fairly balanced news reporting
Their opinion talking heads may lean away from the GOP
Still they try more than most, these days to be unbiased

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2020/02/06/media-stumbles-covering-trump/

    Completely and totally spot on
The media has mucked this up from the start

They’re just as guilty as overly trying to play fair
Using false equivalence, not stating aloud and firm
And not acting on things as they occur
As the Dems have until now.

Those who hesitate, Bear a burden of fault for allowing evil and foul things from happening.
Or even simply unethical and corrupt
    Etc

I’m not going for hyperbole or spit hairs

    You take the money
You market and promote your integrity
    You then have a responsibility
    One to state the truth
And say when there’s a potential crisis

    Can’t have it both ways
Can’t have a role and be a commodity
Then shy away when there’s an issue
I hate it when coworkers do it
I grimace when I see media doing it
I frown when I see leaders do it

    So should everyone

    This is why bridges fall
    Cars go aflame
People may fall ill and die
Why do they always have to die before something is done???

I’m not a liberal bleeding heart
I like string companies, strong nation, strong values
But I know when there’s something wrong

    Let’s not rationalize it
    Let’s address it aloud
Transparency, straight forward, Fox the damn stuff

    Media owns this too
    They cannot be just “observers”

Recently I've been watching a lot of network national & world news.

Apparently every host is either spineless, or has been told not to upset their guest. Not one of them makes their guest actually answer the question that was asked.

Gawd forbid should any "journalist" stop the spin answers and make the guest give real answers to meaningful questions.

This entire 'play nice or I won't appear on your show' and 'I won't make you actually answer my questions' game makes me sick.

The numbers for the recent Trump and Biden separate town hall meetings is interesting: Biden 13.9M, Trump 13.1M.

And I just realized this really belongs in presidential race thread.

How does Margaret Brennan keep her job at CBS?

She asks the wrong tough questions with the wrong guests.

She asks the right tough questions with the right guests...and then lets them avoid answering the actual question.

    She sucks.

Actually, you’re speaking about most of the TV reporters
They focus on being polite and not to create waves with the guest
Otherwise they’re afraid the guest will refuse to come on or upset a portion of their audience...and the paying sponsors.

It’s only the newspapers and magazines that do any hard news and opinion
But most of these are bought and read by audience that already is in their corner

The conflict of interest of money blunts much of the search for truth and hard questions

Only large companies like WaPo, WSJ and NYT will risk it...since they’re established and have enough of a pool of money.
Even they battle themselves about releasing things.

It comes down to the owners and the strength/will of the editors.

The Republicans and conservative spinning news media didn't scream about the voting system being broke after Lesser George was declared the winner in 2000.

Could it be because the "their" candidate won?
Would have they whined long and loud if he had lost?

Cumulus Media, the company that employs many popular right wing radio talking heads and whose business model is based on inflammatory rhetoric, lies and conspiracy theories, told those radio hosts to "tone it down" or you're out on your ass....

Talk-radio owner orders conservative hosts to temper election fraud rhetoric

“We need to help induce national calm NOW,” Brian Philips, executive vice president of content for Cumulus, wrote in an internal memo, which was first reported by Inside Music Media. Cumulus and its program syndication arm, Westwood One, “will not tolerate any suggestion that the election has not ended. The election has been resolved and there are no alternate acceptable ‘paths.’ ”

“If you transgress this policy, you can expect to separate from the company immediately.”

Expect to hear cries of " censorship" and "corporate sell-out" for the company's rational response to the current heated environment among its millions of listeners.

My bitch, the most egregious bitch I can think of within the realm of news I preferred to watch is with PBS News Hour.
Back in 2015 they were doing a chat about the campaign fundraising stuff..all the evil dark money, the pacs and all...and how much money was being gathered too.
They managed to do the whole segment without saying Bernie Sanders, or 27 bucks.
At this point in the game Bernie and his stance on fundraising was common knowledge as well as the 27 bucks and how great he was doing with that.
I was like...wtf ? How could you not mention Bernie ??
This pissed me off so much I decided public broadcasting was dead to me, period.
Brooks, of Shields and Brooks always pissed me off big time at how brick stupid he was about Trump. I don't get how he has a job. He's a fucking idiot. I like Shields.
So now I only see this old house on utube.
I also dropped npr at this time.
I went on for a year or so with a news fast. Fuck the news, I'm done.

That said I did donate to Bernie many times and usually double the 27 bucks, plus phone banked and door to door voter visits in the area.

Then slowly google headlines creeped into my mornings and I got into the habit of reading the Hill and Axios

Then I got drawn into clips of the major networks on utube plus some of the indy pundits there.
The utube pundits to me mostly say about the same stuff the networks seem to say so..if I do watch one like Bryan Talor Choen I tend to watch the clip they comment on and turn them off when they start talking cause, I can think for myself thanks. Same for TYT , these guys seem like they talk way more than they show clips of political events and I just don't care for their banter.

I prefer the comentors brought in to the networks if I want things dissected into how govt. works or legal stuff...or climate, virus, economy etc.
Past 3 weeks I haven't seen much more than Don Lemon, Lester Holt, Chris Cuomo or Bryan Williams on my tv. I like all of these guys more or less. But I feel saturated.

Probably what I miss the most is the Fairness Doctrine...I mean who needs that any more than those pesky gay folk who died of aids ? Thanks Ronnie you fucking piece of shit.

One thing that makes me sick is the constant ghoulish exploitation of things like Ramsy girl who vanished or the Anna Nicole Smith death and how the networks just rolled in that like pigs in slop to get eyeballs on their advertising.

I watched some news parody for a while but Larry Wilmore I do miss more than any others..

I don't care for Rachel Madow because she's so smug and so happy to tell about how shitty things are. She details it out like her audience is 5 year olds and she needs to fill out 15 minutes with what can be said in 3 sentences/two minutes.

Seems like shes happy the next gen of children in Flynt will have brain damage if she can tell us a republican is to blame.

One thing I've really liked recently is the Spitting Image reboot. I've been watching that on utube. Funny shit, cartoonie and raunchy.
    Seems fitting for these times.

    I'm a fan of BBC World. - it's like old-school TV news
dry and focused on the facts.

But the camera work is clear and crisp.

A much better perspective of global news too.
    Not just US and UK
