This is a growth upgrade. We needed a larger server for some items that while directly unrelated to TFP will impact TFP. Again, those of you who are on facebook may have already heard about these things.

    Here's what's new:

    Bigger server.

    Blog updated. Longer comments.

Inactive user reminder emails. Sorry to spam you but life gets busy, so sometimes it's nice when a friend calls and says they miss you.

Advertisements. Okay, just kidding. Not really, the framework has been setup, but you'll more than likely never see them. Registered folks will not see advertisements.

Removed the What's new at the top of the forum. It was REALLY chatty. I mean 33Gb of data bandwidth chatty. It pinged the server every 20 seconds you were sitting on the page. It's nice that it keeps you current, I'm trying to find a better solution, like maybe every minute or so. In the meantime the main page will have all the forums listed there.

    Thanks for your patience.

The blog author is going to release a new version soon he claims. This was his last free update. I'm ready to buy his new version as soon as I test it. If 2k is still not enough, I can adjust it.

  7. The amount of effort cyn goes to around here is phenomenal. ...and thats just the stuff you see. The fact that its all done for free is even more amazing....we're forever indebted to his services at TFP.

We appreciate all your hard work dude.

I'm particularly hopeful that you find a better solution, even if it's to update the "What's New" every few minutes. I understand the problem of a very cool feature being a resource drain so you have to make adjustments somehow. Hopefully you are able to reach a workable resolution, because I absolutely love(ed) that feature.

fflowley Don't just do something, stand there!

I agree with you about the "what's new". That's how I enter the site each time I use it.
I don't have any technical knowledge whatsoever, and what shall be shall be, but I hope that what's new can come back.

Thanks Cyn for all your hard work.

Yes, I like that feature too. I'm having conversations with original author so that I can tweak it a little bit. Even if I adjust it to 30 seconds it will be a good thing. I'm hoping to make it 60 seconds since most of the time between those posts is several minutes.
A few things he's stated in the past is that we'll be able to adjust the comments into a real editor so you can have links and other bbcode. Private entry was something he stated as well. I'm not sure how he will execute that.

The blog option of privacy v. no option for privacy is why I don't use my blog. Not saying I have a particularly scandalous life but I've started many a blog post just to abandon it 'cos I'm not comfortable with that level of exposure. Also 'cos I don't really use my blog I forget to check other folks' blogs whereas back in the day (of privacy enabled) I checked them each day.

I do understand and very much appreciate that bit-by-bit, The TFP is growing ever-more awesome. Still, I'll be really stoked with a privacy blog option. :)

Fangirl, remember that at the basic level the blogs are not crawled by google nor seen unless registered. I'd like to get the privacy space back as well, because of the same reasons you're making. I don't go back there as often as I should or used to.
