Wasted Effort

    Post Christmas I was thinking about gifts and recalled buying my dad a movie, who is a huge fan on musicals. Anyway, the movie in question was "South Pacific". I looked locally at quite a few shops a few weeks before Christmas (this was quite a few years ago) and couldn't find it (couldn't even get someone to order it for me - it was supposedly 'out of print').

    This was in the early days of Amazon.com, so I spent quite a bit getting a VHS copy sent from America. Cool, right? Well, we have/had a different format for VHS files, so I had to get the video converted - thankfully I have a friend who could help me with this, so while it was time consuming, it didn't cost me anything.

    My dad gets the movie and is super pleased.

    I know - where's the wasted effort? Well, I went into the local department store a week or so after Christmas, and there is a mega-display of copies of "South Pacific" on VHS, in the right format, for cheaper than it cost me to get it from the US. Talk about deflating!

    So, share your biggest wasted effort!

    i once tried to help a fellow employee save his job by giving hom some pointers, and just generally helping unfuck his organizational and time management skills... after 3 weeks of commiting an hour or two a day to this cause the bastard gets into some unrelated trouble and gets fired anyway...

    About 25% of my classes I took in school. Not the subjects themselves, just how they were taught. Like going to France for 6 weeks would have been much better than 3 years of French class.
