I have recently been exploring the world of Sushi and thought I REALLY liked it. I have finally figured out, while the Sushi is ok..its the Wasabi I am addicted to lol

I have bought a can of powder and would really like to use it with other things besides fish. So, I want you foodies to tell me what other things that Wasabi is good with?

I don't exactly like Wasabi, but I've seen this in several supermarkets: Wasabi-coated peanuts!

Got to go with the wasabi peas.

It's a great ingredient - you can use it in the same way you'd use horseradish.

    It's good with oily fish.

It makes some delicious deviled eggs! <-- if you like deviled eggs, seriously do this!

Add to mashed potatoes, just a little bit to add some zing.

If you like guacamole it can kick up the flavor.

One thing you should probably know is that commercial wasabi is mostly likely just horseradish dyed green. Very few people have access to real wasbi. I don't think I have had it more than once.

So, whatever you would use horseradish with, you can use wasabi.

Or live in a part of the country where it can actually be grown/has a high Japanese population. Apparently there are a couple places where I could go buy it. I might have to.

The peas thing is ok, they are all over the place at the asian farmers market here, but I want to know what I can mix my (white) wasabi powder in lol I will give the deviled eggs a try. I wish I liked guacamole, but I hate the stuff, I cant even stand looking at it lol

I've seen a grown man cry as a result of an hilarious guacamole/wasabi mixup...

The commercial wasabi stuff that most people interact with is really horse-radish. Real Wasabi's flavor only last short while after you shave it, so in order to commercialize wasabi, they make it out of horse radish and dye it green.

In short, whatever's good with horseradish will be good with wasabi. I like to eat my wasabi with boiled shrimp :)

Wait wait, you mean your powder doesn't look like this?

Usually it turns green once you mix it up w/ water. I spent many a day in the back of our restaurant mixing the powder with the water. I'm really trying hard to think of novel applications for this stuff. :)

I found a can of wasabi powder at the grocery store here that is authentic wasabi--but it's been freeze-dried and turned into a powder. I haven't tried it yet, but it's tempting.
