I don't believe this note was appropriate at all. The TSA is supposed to be professional enough to do all that they are supposed to do without personality or levity. If we can't have any, they can't have any.

    Of course it's inappropriate.

But, I don't think it's quite fair to blame the TSA for one gal/guy who decided to have a little fun at work. If they find and fire the person responsible then all is well. It's not quite time to loose the dogs on this one.

She is getting a lot more attention now...

I don't see anything wrong with it. The girl needs to have a sens of humor.

It's as if while conducting a terry frisk, a cop touched your wang and said, "nice package."

Is it super wrong? No. Is it an uncomfortable intrusion in to privacy by public officials? Yes.

Honestly, *not* a big problem as I see it, but still uncomfortable.

Your example, KirStang, would get a police officer in a lot of trouble if you decided to file a sexual harassment claim. I think that the note is a pretty disturbing violation of privacy - yes, I know the TSA is probably going through my personal items when I travel, but it's not okay to make it an interaction like that note did - definitely stepping over the line of professionalism.

I'm not sure. Most of what little I know about sexual harassment revolves around workplace misbehavior.

Is it fair to judge the TSA by the actions of one inspector? YES!!! The TSA is nothing BUT a collection of individuals, who collectively represent the organisation. If I worked for the TSA, I would be mortified/horrified that one of my co-workers would be so crass as to do something like this and make MY job, already a public relations disaster, that much more so. If you don't hold ALL to the same high standard of conduct, you don't hold ANY to any standard.

fflowley Don't just do something, stand there!

I'm having serious trouble believing this one.
Who knows who wrote that note?

OP: That TSA officer that did that should be fired and the immediate supervisor should be reprimanded.

I can't believe you just said that.

Unprofessional, yes. Grounds for disciplinary action, sure.

I can't put my finger on it, but something about this is more double finger pistols/"you go girl" than "ew, creepy" to me. I'd probably feel differently if it happened to me personally.

One of the smartest things Christopher Guest ever said was "there's a fine line between clever and stupid". Meet that thought in action.

    *blushes* You flatterer, you.

    ...

No, seriously, this bullshit really angers me. It's incredibly unprofessional. I would roll heads over it.

Yeah, I have to say that, while not particularly harmful, it's also intrusive and not particularly professional. TSA already has people incensed and angry. They've not been particularly GOOD at their jobs, based on reports of contraband getting through. One would think that the minimum they could do is be professional. This one went out of his/her way to be unprofessional.

This is like saying "I found a red jelly bean therefore all jellybeans are red." Just because this one person at the TSA was a creepy and unprofessional doesn't make the TSA as an organization creepy and unprofessional.

Also, I'm betting the person who wrote this more likely falls under the category of 'that friend who gets drunk and says inappropriate, but hilarious things' than the category 'also sniffed her underwear'.

This reminds of a time we picked up our bags at the claim after a trip and heard a strange noise...looked at each other, wondering what it was. It followed us as we walked out of the airport. I realized it was coming from one of our bags...and then we both burst out laughing as we realized that a vibrator had gotten turned on during the flight and it was going to town in the bag. Since then, we take the batteries out of the toys before we pack them. But I wouldn't have been surprised by a note reading "Turned your freak off, saved the battery, you're welcome."

I often bring my toys "across the pond". I do wonder sometimes what airport security will make of them but am not in the least put off by it. At least not to the point that I'd leave them behind. If I received a response like this, I probably wouldn't be all that upset but would definitely wonder if they'd been sniffed or worse.
