Toronto Mega Meetup Question

Don't see a sticky about this anywhere on the site. I'm just curious what it's about.... as I am Canadian and all.

I live in the GTA so attendance shouldn't be a problem; I'm curious what it is about/entails though.

 

Some may have more/other motivation than I do, but I see it as extending relationships, growing friendships, taking a peek behind this curtain of the interwebs. There's real folks behind those usernames and avatars. Most are much more than the sum of their posts here.

What does it entail? Whatever fun and/or shenanigans the group decides. There will be eating and drinking, of course. Beyond that, I hesitate to reveal too much to the uninitiated

 

So would you say it's like a casual meetup where people get together and mutually decide to do something? I'm down for that. I just wasn't sure what it was about.

I am assuming there is a different locality every year? I'm not egocentric enough to think it's in Toronto for my convenience

 

I'm definitely hoping it will be either Toronto or Montreal next year. I plan on being there!

 

Is it always in Canada? At a cursory glance, it seems like there are more people from the States on this board.

 

The reason it's in Canada this year is because of the cardigan convention going on this Summer in Toronto.
We have a clique of cardigan crawlers that go from convention to convention seeking the finest designs in the cardigan lines.

Hi Split Brain! I have become sort of the unofficial TFP ambassador over the years and can probably speak for most of us in terms of what a meetup can be like.

Probably the last time we had one of this massive size was, incidentally, the same weekend of July a few years back. In that case, a bunch of us congregated on someone's house for the weekend, with no real set agenda. Some folks wanted to see the city sights, others wanted to kick back and just chill on the patio, and still others just wanted to stay up all night and sleep the morning away.

The smaller day meetups are usually the ones with a little more structure if folks are meeting up for a meal, game night, etc. You would be welcome to attend for as little or as long as you like!

One word of advice I would suggest to any considering attending - by all means, please interact with people as you feel comfortable. However, you will have the most fun and enjoy your experience fully if you remember that everyone is probably just a little nervous like you, but says what the hell and has a great time. Pictures are often taken - if you have any objection to pictures being posted with you in them my suggestion is to make yourself the photographer as often as possible
