Things you can do in elevator?

Buildings around here aren't very tall, hehe, the lift at work only goes from bottom floor to second. :)

I don't do much in elevators, other than panic a little, if there's some trouble on the way. Seldom is. Safest transportation in the world is elevator, I learned today.

The question in the title was supposed to be the thread idea, but I also found this link to Elevator Pitch Builder, when I was looking for a picture for this thread.

fflowley Don't just do something, stand there!

I could tell you about spending an hour trapped in an elevator full of people, with the doors jammed close but there's got to be lots more fun stories than that out there.

My 8 year old son likes to park himself at the buttons, so he can ask everyone what floor they want to visit, and he can press the buttons.

I don't like the ones which go through long delays or rumbling pauses after pushing the button.
I also rememer one which was horribly slow

Heh. One of my favorite elevator memories involves lifting the back of her skirt up to feel her up while on our way upstairs to my place. That was when I lived on the 14th floor of a 15 story building, and some downstairs neighbors were riding with us at the time. :)

I got my current job via an elevator pitch. It was awesome to crystallize the discussion in the short time from the 6th floor to the 2nd floor.

I can't recall any shenanigans in any of the elevators I rode up.

Personally I like manned elevators, the ones with the manual doors and controls. They rock.

i've heard if you hold the close door button while pressing the floor you want it will bypass all the other floors that are waiting. some kind of emergency feature.

    has anyone tried this?

Yesterday, I was going to show my son the elevator in my new apartment building. It's older and a little creepy so I thought he would like it. When the door opened, the elevator was about a foot and a half above the floor. Along with the hand written sign on the elevator wall that said "If elevator gets stuck, help will come!" I decided that maybe taking the elevator wasn't the best idea. So, we used the stairs.

the question is how long would it take help to get there?

  10. I'm afraid of heights. We stayed at a hotel with an outdoor glass elevator and had a room on the top floor. I nearly had a panic attack the first time I rode it...I thought I'd be ok but I wasn't. Taking the stairs wasn't ideal because we were going to Disneyland and my son was 4. He enjoyed the elevator in the morning and was usually asleep in someone's arms at the end of the day. I just kept my eyes closed during the subsequent trips.

    Pfft...

What can't I do in an elevator?

    ...

We had a fun thread on 4.0 that went something like, "Which TFPer would you want to be stuck with in an elevator?"

I'll take "1980s TeeVee in the United States" for 200, Alex.

Well, things you can't do or shouldn't do, might have been a better discussion.

For example, since you're stuck, you can't throw an annoying fellow passenger out.

At Christmas time, you can deposit a dead terrorist in there with your taunting message written in magic marker on his sweat shirt.

The most interesting thing I did in an elevator was preceded by the most interesting thing I've done in a cab. Though the cab ride was more fun because it lasted longer.

Variation of an elevator for terrorists is, they press the button and seven storeys come down.

There's nothing like being pushed back into the corner of an elevator and fiercely kissed in the 13 floors down. And then the next time with the same person they're just eye fucking you and it has the exact same effect.

I used to ride an elevator up my building at work daily, and still can't think about them without remembering that series of elevator rides. What a fun night.
