Besides being a new member to the TFP, I am an active member of various other groups out there. This is a project that one of the groups I'm affiliated with came up with. It's a motivational video centered around the theme, "The World Isn't As Bad As You Think." We hope you enjoy it.

For the statistician in you, read "The Rational Optimist"

It shows you how the world has improved overall in the long-term.
It does give you some hope for civilization.

Thanxz for that. I wish someone had told me this 20 years ago. I do believe I'll pass it on.

I like the message but approximately 3:30 of people holding up the same sign in a 4:54 video?

That was the point that was trying to be made. While many of us had different ways of expressing it, our message was identical. I think the only thing I dislike about it is that more effort could have been made on the part of people who made submissions.

Like I said I liked the message. I liked the signs too. I just thought it went overboard with the signs as I felt the point was made after 20-30 seconds.

I feel like I heard this before, when I was a lot younger. Also, it reminds me a lot of Fight Club and...The Matrix, for some reason. Also, I used to be like that; then I grew up and started doing something about the things I hated. Also, cool story, bro.

Who are you talking to? I'm confused as to the purpose of this thread since the OP is a video with no discussion points. Found on the 'Net material.

Basic formula for posting on TFP is 1. introduction to the topic / problem, 2. your perspective w/ supporting text / links, 4. discussion question.

I think the video is a nice gesture and all, but people like me (i.e. pretty much anyone who has gotten to know the third world) would probably see it the way I do: First World middle-class people's attempts at emotional reacharounds, because Maslow's hierarchy tells them to seek, find and maintain their self-esteem. The rest? Gotta worry about food, shelter and security.

I assumed you were posting your video as a satirical response to the one I posted. Perhaps a little more backstory may help.

The deadline was later extended to allow for additional entries, but the video was finally released on June 9th. However, it did not gain as much coverage as was hoped. reilyx, the creator, posted another thread on the Dollars BBS, asking that members involved spread the video. Since I believed in the message enough to actually take part in said video (you may notice the video clip in the middle was my own), I decided to post it here.

So yeah, the purpose of the thread wasn't as much to discuss something was it was to send a message. A message that we feel people needed. I put it under the "Life and Sexuality" board instead of "Found on the Net" because overall, I hoped people would take something away from it (just as reilyx had hoped). I felt if I put it in the latter it would interfere with the sending of that message. I can't say whether putting it here is or isn't successful, since time will tell.

And as much as I don't like to point fingers, it sounds to me like you didn't even watch the video. I gave a short synopsis on what the video was about, and hoped that the video would speak for itself. By the looks of it, the message came across decently to most. If you did watch it and the message didn't sink in, then yes, it's the fault of the video and I can't deny that. But if you didn't even watch the bloody thing, then you've no right to say whether or not it has purpose.

See? There ya go. Meat on the plate. Now I know what I'm looking at before I look at it, why it's important to you, etc. It's that easy.

And, hey, I'm just saying what everybody else is thinking when someone posts a video and says "Hey, this is cool... check it out."

I'm pretty sure you just described the opposite of how social media works, hyuck hyuck hyuck. And I won't lie, I was banking on curiosity killing the cat here. Less typing that I have to do.

But this is part of the reason why the world is as bad as I think. It's 140 characters sharted onto the 'Net with no soul.

    ...no soul.

Wouldn't "sharted" imply that it was accidental?

Well played. I seriously just cackled reading that. I'm totally not going to play UrbanDictionary with you, though.

I mean, my point remains: Stop shitting on worthwhile human interaction with Twitter FaceySpace Newspeak.

You've obviously mastered the shift key and are capable of posting things with thought... so keep doing it.
