I attending a briefing at Dept of Treasury this morning officially announcing the plans to replace the current $10 bill with a new bill to feature a "notable woman" and Treasury's plan to use social media to solicit suggestions from the public.

more background: New $10 bill to feature a woman | TheHill

I am leaning towards Rosa Parks or one of the early women elected to Congress or maybe Eleanor Roosevelt.

    Who would be your choice(S)?

It is still not clear if the new bill will feature just the notable woman or both the woman and Alexander Hamiltion; apparently their are Hamiltonians out there fighting to keep him in the picture.

Fuck Alexander Hamilton, though I'll admit he has a supercool backstory for one of the Founding Fathers. My kids go nuts when they find out he died in a duel.

I don't know who I would pick to put on a $10 bill. Rosa Parks would be a great choice. I'll have to give it some thought. The problem is that we've left it so long there are lots of good, worthy choices.

I am stoked they're finally going to put a woman on currency, but I wish they would've picked the $20 instead of the $10. I kind of like Hamilton, and Jackson was a raging fuckwad who deserves to be kicked off our money.

Rosa Parks would be all right, I guess, though I'm a little sketched at putting someone still alive on the money. I'd rather see Sojourner Truth or Harriet Tubman, though. Or Susan B. Anthony or Elizabeth Cady Stanton, maybe. Clara Barton or Elizabeth Blackwell or Muriel Siebert. Eleanor Roosevelt. Frances Perkins. Like that....

You do realize Rosa Parks passed in 2005, right?

Eleanor Roosevelt would be my first choice. She was a woman of wide accomplishment, and influential as the wife of FDR, able to work both through and around the "old boys network" not just because she was FDR's wife, and her influence and accomplishment continued for years after FDR's passing.

Not to diminish her efforts, but Rosa Parks had the good fortune to be courageous, stubborn, and present at a "tipping point," and was really kind of a one trick pony compared to Eleanor.

I think @Baraka Guru might favor Kate Upton.;)

Jesus did she really? Boy is my face red. How the hell did I miss that?? OK, I feel a little better about her as a choice. Still don't like her for it as well as most of the others I mentioned.

I'm pretty sure Sacagawea and Susan B Anthony were female.

OK, on paper currency. And, since this isn't 1895, putting anyone on a dollar coin is of fairly negligible worth, IMO....

So glad you'd like to put a Canadian on your money, but do you think that's really appropriate?

Artificially inflated currency with no real value behind it, so that seems actually appropriate in that respect......

All this talk of about what Raging Fuckwads (TM) our early leaders were has me thinking that people have lost a fundamental understanding of how the US was founded and all the raging fuckwad things that were done in the name of making it great in comparison to the rest of the world.

This is the land of fuckwads, people. If you're not a fuckwad, it's because the fuckwads before you laid the foundation of pure awesomeness that has allowed you to coast through life.

    ...

I second Eleanor Roosevelt. If it's going to be a woman, she is one of the most qualified.

As usual... you're missing the point, Chuck. Because you're not American. America is about ballsy assholes taking what they want:

    Here's some Real American Money:

.25 Coin: Edward Higgins White (astronaut)
.50 Coin: Thomas Edison (inventor, industrialist, asshole)
    $1 Coin: Marlon Brando (actor)
    $1 Bill: John L. Sullivan (face-punching badass)
$2 Bill: John Moses Browning (inventor)
$5 Bill: Samuel Houston (war hero / badass)
    $10 Bill: Henry Ford (industrialist)
$20 Bill: Audie Murphy (war hero / badass)
$50 Bill: Joseph Satriani (badass guitarist)
$100 Bill: Theodore Roosevelt (war hero / badass)

    Best money ever!
