The critics are absolutely raving. It's sitting at 96% with nearly 70 reviews, and it comes out in a couple of days.

    From Wikipedia:
But sorry, PC and Xbox peeps, it's a PS3 exclusive.

However, the gameplay looks absolutely mind-blowing.

    Have a look.

Sounds quite good but no playstation here. I suspect that my decent for my purposes video card would complain even if it was available for the PC. Knowing me I will get a PS3 when the PS5 is released and makes the third generation model really affordable.

Those graphics are gorgeous, do all or most at least games optimised for the PS3 look that good?

That's a pretty good standard for that genre and a few others that are action/3D oriented. Developers have done a great job doing what they can with the Ps3 hardware. From what I've seen so far on the Ps4, they're really pushing the envelope, and I imagine that future generations of games on the new system will look phenomenal.

The system is moving from a single 3.2 GHz processor with six SPUs to an eight-core 64-bit processor; from 500 MB of RAM (at least half of which was GDDR3) to 8 GB of GDDR5 RAM; and from a GPU with a theoretical peak performance of 230.4 GFLOPS to a GPU with a theoretical peak of 1.84 TFLOPS (or 1,840.0 GFLOPS).

There's now a lot more room to move, graphically speaking.

Since Microsoft has now screwed- over their fan-base with the horribly mismanaged Xbox One, I will be switching over to one of the Playstation consoles in the future.
If I can find out if the PS4 will be offering The Last of Us on their line-up in the Gaikai cloud service (which will allow for some backwards compatibility, among other things) next year when they introduce it, I'll probably just skip the PS3 and buy the PS4 a few months from now.

    Back in 2006, Ps3 launched in Q4 at $499 (20 GB) and $599 (60GB). Xbox 360 launched in Q4 of 2005 at $299 ("Core") and $399 (20 GB).

Accounting for inflation, the entry-level cost of each system was: Xbox at $356 and PS3 at $576.

Now Sony is expecting you to pay $399 for the PS4, and Microsoft is expecting $499 for Xbox One, even though the hardware is pretty comparable. (The big differences, of course, are in the other details.)

I recognise the girl, (c&p'd into a DayZ wallpaper), the game looks great but I'm anti storyline, much prefer 'open sandbox' type where the adventure is individual to you. DayZ will be ported to consoles sometime after its' release, which is imminent.

If a game has a good storyline and some actual replay value then I will always consider buying it. An open ended universe is especially attractive to me in games like Grand Theft Auto.
If a zombie game gives me the chance to become an outright villain and start shooting at other survivors as well as at zombies then I am even more inclined to buy it.

I used to be like you, then I realized how inexpensive console gaming is in terms of remaining current with hardware.

It takes a while to get used to pointing and shooting with a controller vs. mouse+keyboard, but once you get there, it's all good.

Some games are better-suited to PCs (strategy games and MMOs, for example), but I now tend to favour consoles when it comes to action-oriented games.

I wish it was the price that was wrong with the new Xbox, but it's the new policies they're implementing that are a deal breaker for me, and a lot of other gamers.
I like the option of being able to rent a game first before I buy it, and I don't like to be told who I can or cannot lend, sell, or give it to.
I'm not one for overt paranoia but I do have a little, like having a camera in your face that has the potential to spy on you. (That's why I keep a sticker over my laptop camera.) ;)

MS has time to change what they've said they'll implement, but I doubt they will until they start seeing significant numbers.
I've never been a Sony guy (other than a Walkman) but I think I will become one.
Unfortunately, PC gaming isn't for me. I can't play with a keyboard. I wouldn't mind having a WiiU as a secondary system, but it's not enough for the more powerful games, imo.

So, Sony is looking very attractive to me right now. I'll try to keep a more open mind in the coming months.

    Interesting times, folks...

You guys, I haven't been this excited for a game in a long time. Like, I might have to pay full retail for this one excited. That's a big deal.

It's by Naughty Dog, who did the Uncharted series. I loved all three Uncharted games, and it looks like a lot of the things that made that series great (memorable characters, expansive vistas, engaging combat with enemies that usually behave intelligently) are being carried over.

One of the things I liked about Uncharted was that it wasn't constant go-go-go action. You had big fight sequences intercut with quieter and slower-paced puzzle/platforming sections. I like the idea of varying the pace a bit, and giving the player more to do than just shoot at stuff.

Finished this game the other day, such a wonderful game! I think I am going to play through it again. I've not even touched the multiplayer yet.
