I am impressed with the trailer and I enjoyed the series even though the ending of the last book was a bit depressing. Hopefully the movie doesn't bomb.

Have you read the Hunger Games trilogy? Did you enjoy the series or did you think it was similar to Battle Royale? (I have never read Battle Royale, but others have made comparison to the series.)

  2. I've only read the first book and I really liked it - I keep waiting for the rest of the series to come out in paperback. The trailer looks good, but I'll reserve judgement until I see it on Rotten Tomatoes.

What grasshopper said. Except the Rotten Tomatoes part.

The trailer does look good, and they picked a strong female lead. It's the other actors (Lenny Kravitz? What?) who I'm hoping won't take away from the film. I kinda hope they make this film with more mature audiences in mind, and that it's not too soft on the violence, since the book itself is pretty violent.

Katniss looks very similar to how I pictured her. Cinna, uh, does not. Too scruffy. Also, I'm still weirded out that the character's name is Cinna.

Like the others, I've only read the first book (also waiting for paperback. my books have to match. I think I've discussed this here before.) I KIND of want to see the movie, but past experience with books made into movies tells me I'll just end up getting irritated, and possibly angry (pretty sure I've discussed that here as well. I'm such a book purist.)

I am curious as to how some of the scenes will play out, though. As MuteyTheMailman said, the book is very violent, and if they try to sugarcoat some of the events, the movie is NOT going to work well.

Oh, wow, looks like I found a discrepancy already. Is that Primrose that gives her the mockingjay pin in the trailer? Not even what happened.

..........um, yeah, I actually notice things like that in movies (*cough* and television shows) based on books I love. That's mainly why I can't watch them.

    I like the music, though.

I think you need to seek a copyright infringement suit for malicious and misleading use of Cinna. Get on it!

I loved the series. Devoured the first two in quick succession and had to wait for the third to come out. That was read in a couple days.

Reading it, I could picture the movie it would make. I hope they don't screw it up.

I don't know why, but when I was reading The Hunger Games, I thought Haymitch was Asian, but I am not sure where or why I came to that conclusion. I might need to re-read the series while picturing Haymitch as a super drunk white dude.

They should have cast Zack Galafanakis (sp?) as Haymitch. I think Elizabeth Banks as Truffie was a good choice though.

Loved the books. Hoping the movie doesn't suck too much.

I just finished the series and decided to watch the trailer again. It made me teary. I'm such a wuss.

Anyway. I do want to see this. I'll probably have to go by myself, since I know Lordeden gets annoyed with my "that's not what happened!" comments. But I really REALLY want this to be good, and true to the books. I want girls to look up to Katniss instead of Bella. So, yeah...I'm going to support this one.

Agreed. If they or you were a fan of the Harry Potter series, then girls can look up to Hermione, right?

I noticed that too, but I understand that if they're going to fit everything in, they kind of have to eliminate smaller characters like Madge from the storyline.

I was kind of surprised to find out this was based on a book. I saw the trailer and thought "Oh look, they remade Battle Royal."

It is a mix between Battle Royale and Logan's Run.

Battle Royale should have been remade, but just to correct some editing and story telling problems.

It even mentions The Hungar Games (that I had never heard of before today) at the end.

I've not personally read the books but my daughter has and she loves them. WHen she saw the preview for the upcoming movie, she got super excited. She cant wait to see it and I must admit, from what I saw of it, it doesn't look like a bad movie.

A coworker is reading the books and we had a great discussion about them yesterday. We both take issue with the same thing: the unrealistic portrayal of teenage sexuality.

I have a hard time believing that two teenagers, sleeping in the same bed, kiss and nothing more--repeatedly. Puhleeze. I'm not so far away from my teens that I underestimate the power of hormones, I suppose.

It's like the movies--graphic violence is acceptable but sexuality isn't.
