The anti-Santa

Discussion in 'General Discussions' started by Craven Morehead, Dec 14, 2011.

  1. This doesn't fit any of the other Holiday threads, but deserves to be seen. This is sooooooo damned cool. Have to think it just scares the crap out of little kids though. More like something I'd expect at Halloween rather than at Chirstmas.

I'd love to see this. Has anyone witnessed this in Europe?

We know something similar. I've never heard the name Krampus though.

It's explained here and it's the same: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._Knut%27s_Day

We tell children, if they don't behave after Christmas, this character (bock) will come and get their presents away.

My woman gets krampus every month. Does that mean she's been bad?

That looks really cool. I'd love to see it.

The closest I've ever gotten to the anti-Santa is..... Toronto's own Zanta!

That idea in the original post sounds like something you would see in Portland.
That Toronto guy looks quite muscular.

I am going to start using Krampus on my kids... Maybe I'll dress up and leave cloven hoof prints in the mud outside their windows.

Craven ... that is amazing. Thanks.

Also, I found it interesting how some of the small children in your video did not 'know' to be scared, whereas others did.

    Oh, and, er ...

Let this be a reminder to me that I need be more proactive about posting the interesting things I find over here as well as on my social networks!

I learned about Krampus while at a holiday cabaret/burlesque show last weekend. They brought him out near the end for a nice bit of humor, and I immediately looked him up to learn more when I got home. As someone who loves Halloween and finds the winter holiday season in America to be too saccharine, I was delighted to discover Krampus. Seems like, for whatever reason, Krampus is enjoying greater exposure all across America this year. When I was searching for more info, I came across the video posted at the beginning of this thread at the bottom of this NPR story from Dec 10: http://www.npr.org/2011/12/10/143485735/naughty-or-nice-krampus-horror-for-the-holidays

I don't know why Krampus is getting more wide-spread exposure in America this year, but I'm happy to have learned about him and hope that more people come to appreciate a little Krampus in their holiday season!
