Food Thank-You Dinner (Meat Questions)

Discussion in 'Tilted Food' started by ZombieSquirrel, Nov 13, 2013.

  1. I can cook...I just don't like to.

DaddySquirrel has been super awesome and super patient with me. He has sacrificed a lot for me and BabySquirrel and continues to do so. He's pretty amazing. Weird little Asian man, but still...he's amazing.

I would like to cook a thank you dinner for this wonderful man for putting up with me. You people know that this must be a difficult task. I don't cook meat, and when I attempt to, he's never impressed. I have some potatoes and green beans from the farmers' market, so I'm thinking of making that. I'll also probably make some mashed cauliflower since I know he really liked that the last time I made it. Side dishes galore because it's what I'm good at it. Just don't know what to do about an entree for him.

Steak? I think I'm close to getting it how he likes it. Chicken? I'm scared to undercook it so it's always dry. Fish? We had salmon last night. Pork Chops? I made them last week and he didn't seem impressed.

Any tips on what meat to make and/or recipes to make it tasty? Tips for the perfect cut of meat?

Maybe I'll skip the cooking and give him something he really wants: Blowjob while he plays videogames.

One way to cook chicken so that it's always perfect is in a crockpot. You can simmer boneless chicken breasts all day with tomatoes and onions and garlic and white wine, they are fall-apart tender and fucking delicious when they're done. You can put your other vegetables in there with them, too. Super easy.

Crockpot, FTW! Or a roast with those potatoes and some onion and carrots. Yummy.

  4. I'm a little late on the Crockpot train since I want to do this tonight, but I will remember this for future meals.

Read the three tips in the OP here: Basic grilling tips, tricks, and suggestions. | The TFP

They are important to follow even when cooking meat on the stove or in the oven.

Also, use a meat thermometer for things like chicken. You can get a digital one for like $10 at the grocery store or on Amazon. Pull the meat 5* or so before where you want it to end up, then let it rest and it'll get there.

Does he like a good burger? That is kind of hard to screw up if you start with quality meat.

  6. I was thinking maybe a turkey burger with some guacamole...maybe some bacon. Get a nice bun since he's picky about the buns. (There's this whole thing about him and his angst for the buns at the cheese-stuffed burgers food cart in town. He said they'd be the best if the buns weren't so cheap...weird little Asian man that I love.)

You know why they never shape beef into a turkey or a chicken and call it a beef turkey? Or why they never take sausage and make it into tiny black bean shaped chunks and call it a burger veggie?

Because you don't have to fake it if you are the best.

Get out of here with this "awesome thank you dinner but I'm going to misuse meat in the process". *squint*

Roast him a turkey or make him a burger. No turkey burgers allowed.

    Cause 'Merica. :p

If this was a thread about being pregnant, I'd concede to your expertise.

Meat is my area of expertise. ;)

  12. I didn't say dinner AND a blow job. Dinner OR a blowjob. I'm no superwoman.

I'm wary of cooking meat because I don't taste it. Tasting is a huuuuge part of cooking for me. I need to know what it tastes like before I serve it to someone else.

That said, you could just skip the meat and make a rice dish, or pasta.

Or, do kabobs. Those are pretty hard to mess up. Prepare the steak as you normally do, then skewer it along with some awesome vegetables & grill it up.

Also, I keep reading this as, "thank you, dinner." While I have all sorts of issues with Ted Nugent, I do remember reading that he thanks the animal he's about to eat before eating it. It's...well, odd, but I also think it's kinda cool.

Borla has said what needs to be said about grilling.

I'd like to add that a crockpot or just braising in the oven is always the easiest way to make tasty meat. It's forgiving (i.e. it's hard to overcook).

fflowley Don't just do something, stand there!

Careful with the kabobs because different meats and vegetables cook at different rates. Making a really good kabob, with each element perfectly cooked takes more skill than it seems.
How about a couple of nice rib steaks and a hot grill?

She's pregnant and she's tired. I know I wouldn't want to be messing around with a grill right now. Especially if I was not really confident with cooking meat in the first place.

This was almost exactly what I was going to say. Even making consistent sized pieces of meat for this isn't that simple.

I reckon @mixedmedia has it right - slow cooking is a nice way to cook (even cheap cuts) meat with little chance of stuffing it up.

I'd think of doing osso bucco, like this:
    Jamie Oliver | Member Recipes

and serve it with mashed potato.

  19. I should have mentioned easy to make and easy to clean up...yet delicious.

Well, a crockpot is admittedly lo-fi, but you know as a working mom you will grow to love it. I know @noodle uses a crockpot from time to time. She probably has some good ideas for you.
