Super Bowl 2013

Discussion in 'General Discussions' started by Craven Morehead, Feb 3, 2013.

  1. This thread will be all things Super Bowl. Drop in and post whatever throughout the day, now that the pre-game coverage has started there should be plenty to discuss.

Roger Goodell was on CBS Sunday Morning carefully sidestepping around the question regarding the long term effect of injuries. Interesting factoid from the injury segment, girls college soccer has the second highest incidence of concussions. I'm hoping the NFL gets this straightened out without damaging the character of the game. It may be not be as violent but thats not really a loss, the emphasis will switch to skill not brute. The same program had a segment on food in New Oreans, now I want gumbo. Badly.

I'm going with the 49ers although Flacco has impressed me this post-season. Maybe this day will be his.

Make this our Super Bowl gumbo thread, toss it all in.

I have watched two Superbowls in my lifetime, and the Green Bay Packer won them both. No clue who they played now or what the score was but I do remember watching Carl Wilson's last performance with the Beach Boys not long before he died of cancer.

  5. Spicy midnight snacks?

    I think J. Harbaugh's team will win:D

Seriously, I'm just looking to be entertained by both the game and the commercials while not being too annoyed by the announcers. Oh, and some favorable numbers at the end of each quarter.;)

Everything tells me Ravens, but I'm picking the 49ers. I don't have a strong rooting interest either way, they both have interesting story lines and I'm conflicted a bit on Ray Lewis and his career having a storybook ending. I don't think he's all good, or all bad, I just don't know that I want to wade through all the over-dramatization that will happen if they win.

That being said, this is the first year in probably five that we aren't having a party, and probably the first time in 10-12 years that we aren't either having a party or going to a party. We have had a busy couple months and made the decision about a month ago that we'd just hang out together, make some good junk food, and just chill out. She's getting the last few items at the store now (she's a trooper to be facing the grocery store this afternoon!), I have the DVRs in both the bedroom and the living room set to record everything so we can switch back and forth depending on where we want to watch it and what extracurricular activities may take place. ;) We have some decent appetizers and drinks at hand. I just hope for a good, close game, and some more creative commercials than last year.

You cheated by posting this while I was typing my long winded reply, otherwise I would've just said "yeah, what grumpyolddude said". :p

  7. I agree with you on the Ray Lewis front, Borla. His "God vs The Devil" and "My Sacrifice" rant after the championship game makes me root for SF simply so we won't have to listen to more of him. As is my custom, I have avoided as much of the media coverage of the past two weeks as possible. Not my kind of circus.

Since I travel by car so much for my work, I listen to a lot of sports radio, mostly ESPN radio via satellite. I commented in another thread on a forum I frequent how this week I've tried to avoid the SB talk as much as possible. I enjoyed it several years ago when there were funny "media day" stories for a couple days and then the game. Now there is such over saturation on almost all big sports stories that, even as much of a fan as I am, it gets disgusting at times.

I went to the store and got some stuff to make food. I'm now regretting that I didn't buy a bottle of Cook's. Mimosas sound good, and I have a test tomorrow so I have to take it easy.

  10. Regarding Ray Lewis....

Wes Welker's wife posted this on Facebook nearly two weeks ago...

"Proud of my husband and the Pats," Welker wrote on her Facebook page. "By the way, if anyone is bored, please go to Ray Lewis' Wikipedia page. 6 kids 4 wives. Acquitted for murder. Paid a family off. Yay. What a hall of fame player! A true role model!"

Last year when they lost in the playoffs she bashed Tom Brady with a tweet IIRC. She sounds like a peach. :p

She apologized, but I don't see why she felt she had to. It's the truth.

I've got my first day at my new management job tomorrow, so I'm keeping it very low key.
No obligations, no distractions for me.

I'm getting a decent package of wings from CostCo, some soda...and chillin' with my puppies on the chase in front of the HDTV.
A bit of gluttony but quiet.

There will be other times for the extraverted fun for me, but party it up everyone else.
    Enjoy.

    /go Ravens!

  14. Just picked up some Italian beef. Having my first beer. Local newspaper has an article about DUI patrols and sobriety checks tonight but DUI arrests have been declining in the past few years. FTW!

Yes to the M&Ms. Also loved the Amy Poehler Best Buy spot.
