Today we participated in the blackout to protest SOPA and PIPA.

If you followed me via facebook, I was posting items all day. I'm glad to have participated, but at the same time I felt it was not as strong as it could have been. I didn't totally 503 thetfp.com which would have made it 100% inaccessible. I thought about it, but when Google, Wikipedia, and Huffington Post didn't, I thought it was more important for our community to still have the connection so I created a link to the forums and one for the chatroom.

    Thank you for your support.

If you have any interest in seeing the blackout page.

It was nice to know that we participated.

It looks like SOPA and PIPA are not quite dead yet. Let's hope the new version is better and that people are still paying attention when it is presented (too often after the initial protest nobody wants to protest anymore).

Symbolic efforts, as small as they may appear, do make a difference when the effort is so widespread.

Kudos to the TFP staff for being part of the effort!

It appears the Senate really got the message and is backing away from the current bill. No so much in the House, where the main sponsors intend to push ahead, but the leadership may slow it down.

It is always refreshing to see that Congress can be made to stop and listen when the voice is loud enough!

Thank you for taking the time and resources to join in the blackout. Gestures like this are important, even if they're just gestures. The blackout even prompted my local NBC affiliate to slap together an inch-deep, one sided story on SOPA/PIPA in time for the 10 o'clock news.

FBI just shut down Megaupload. Not even a USA company.

There's really no defending Megaupload. While I'm sure it had legitimate uses and users, it was also a seething haven for petabytes of file sharing. Not that all the details are out yet, but it sounds like they're charging them with some other, non-piracy related crimes as well.

Yeah, I was really happy to see that too. It is exciting to know that the power of the people still means something here in the United States.
