Shotgun barrel question

    Question: You have a smooth bore shotgun used for bird hunting.
    You want to deer hunt using rifled slugs.
    What choke do you use in the shotgun barrel?

    You can shoot some rifled slugs. But you gotta make sure the choke you use is at least as big as the rifles smooth bore. Or you will blow the end off the gun. I have seen people blow the last few inches of the guns before.

    Are you opposed to buying a rifled barrel for it?

    I have an 870 with both barrel types. I love having the rifled barrel for deer.

    It should be mentioned that a shotgun is always a shitty substitute for a rifle, especially when you're talking slugs.

    Unfortunately, for lots of us who deer hunt, rifles aren't a legal option.

    Yeah, my rifle > shotgun point was strictly from a technical position.

    And they have to give arrow flingers and musket toters a chance.

    Great info, thanks.
    We just went over to rifle hunting here a couple of years ago (upstate NY). There is no way I would want to go back to a shotgun.
    I was using a rifled shotgun barrel in the past but for whatever reason wondered what I would need to do if I used a smooth barrel.

    For deer hunting in ohio I love my muzzle loader. accurate to 150 yards.
