    Damn. I usually stay right down the street since one of my clients is nearby. Since I already talked to a couple of them there, I feel a little better, but this is a bad trend.

    Early reports are saying it was a workplace dispute that spilled into the street. Possibly that the gunman had just been fired.

    another friend works in ESB, he can't get to work today for obvious reasons. He is safe.

    weird to have other people inform me of this situation before reading/hearing it before I get to see it myself.

    Import/export company disgruntled employee was shot and killed.

    There is supposed to be a press conference by Bloomberg and Kelly right about now.

    Sounds like many/most/all of the wounded were actually shot by the police. It seems like (so far) the guy had been fired and was targeting a particular person for retaliation or out of anger. So the two dead are that victim and the shooter. When the police arrived they shot and killed the shooter, and apparently wounded a bunch of innocent bystanders. What a mess.

    Why is this news?

    Plenty more people have been killed elsewhere in the united states during this same day. This was a single killing due to a grievance and the cops appear to have behaved in a stereo typically inept fashion by shooting multiple bystanders.... The only two people to die were the original victim and the shooter.

    Does anybody give a shit about the every-day ordinary murders or just the ones in public places?

    What makes you think the police can protect you when they suck this bad?

    Many in NYC thought it was a terrorist attack. Oddly enough, when it was announced that it wasn't, people were pretty relieved. Weird to think that a sigh of relief that some random gunman shot and killed people was a relief instead of it being a terrorist attack.

    Oddly enough, that's exactly the schemes in existence in NYC and Chicago. A lot of good that did.

    And bear in mind the 9 "victims" of the NYC shooting were all injured by the police. Couched in less perjorative terms, it was an instance of murder. The "shooting" (as the media uses the term) that happened was done via the NYPD.
