We don't need to kill whales for science. It's 2013.

We especially do not need to kill endangered whales for science. While the minke and humpback whales caught this season aren't endangered, the fin whales the Japanese would like to catch--and tried to catch--are.

I'm sure it's not a big surprise to anyone here that I'm a Save the Whales person. Actually, this is my oldest cause! I got a Greenpeace membership for Christmas when I was 8 because I wanted to save the whales :p (as well as the rest of the planet). I'm less of a bleeding heart these days, but I still don't buy the Japanese argument that they should be able to hunt whales in international waters for "science."

  2. If it were up to me - I would dump every washed up whale copse on the steps of the nearest Japanese embassy - so they can research to their hearts delight.
Blooming brave lot, the antis, arent they.
I saw/heard a chorus of whales crossing the bay of biscay. Beautifull creatures, beautifull singers. Best not kept confined for public display I think. Certainly best not served as sushi.

I had whale a couple of times in Iceland. I liked it enough to eat it again. I kind of think it to be like steak in it's texture but not in taste.

Personally, I'd be happy if they farmed them in some manner to make them sustainable as any other food source.
