Here is a great set of photographs from the LA Times:
The 124th Tournament of Roses Parade | Jan. 1, 2013 - Framework - Photos and Video - Visual Storytelling from the Los Angeles Times

All day today people will be watching the 124th Rose Parade! Gain an appreciation for all things botanical with these beautiful organic floats.

Have you ever been there in-person?
What are your favorite memories of the parade?
    What's your favorite float?
    Favorite band?
    Favorite equestrian group?

Do you agree with the judges for the top picks for all the awards?

    Some highlights:
    Reunion of a military family!
    Marriage ceremony on a float!
B-2 bomber fly by with Korean War 60th anniversary float.
Joint high school bands from China and US
Tiny kids with musical talent in a middle-school band from New Orleans
    Etc...

I adore this parade. I watch it every year without fail. I often watch it over and over again, leaving it on a TV all day. My husband is more excited about the rose bowl, but for me it's all about the FLOWERS!
I have yet to see it in person. Though my friends have performed there with their bands. I have never seen the floats in-person. One of these years I would LOVE to do so, but I think I'll wait until I can take my daughter at an age where she can enjoy it with a sense of wonder and remember it for years to come.

I think my favorite float this year was the city of Downey. Even though the float broke down, the fairies are whimsical. I also really loved the giant microscope on the City of Hope float.

I haven't watched it yet today, but I usually do. It gets me excited for Rose Festival in Portland. It goes hand in hand with watching the Grand Floral Parade later in the year quite nicely. My husband doesn't understand either. I think he marched in too many parades growing up as a Boy Scout.

The only parades I've ever been to have been local parades when my daughter was in the high school marching band and the St Paddy's Day parade last year in Roanoke. Bagpipes never fail to stir me.

I'd probably enjoy a big parade like Macy's Thankgiving Day Parade or the Rose Parade if I had a good spot and could actually see the floats and marching corps. As for watching them on TV? I get bored and find the announcers annoying so I don't watch them anymore.

I volunteer as a decorator for the Rose Floats every year. This year, I worked on the Indonesia float. It's amazing, climbing up on the scaffolding, putting these things together. I'll see if I can upload some pictures of it.

Poetry, that's a beautiful float! So neat that you're a part of the magic.

I have only gone to Victory Park after the parade. I wish that I had gone to it when I was younger.
