Radioactive used cars in Japan

Discussion in 'General Discussions' started by Craven Morehead, Oct 26, 2011.

  1. Frankly, I'm amazed that this would happen in Japan. In the US, it would not surprise me. For sure in China, but not at all in Japan. Considering that this country more than any other knows the dangers of radiation first hand. Boggles the mind.

I expect to see commercials featuring the Carfax fox in a moon suit holding a geiger counter any day now.

But seriously, assuming 2 hours per day in your car and absorbing every bit of that radiation (which you won't be,) you're still looking at less than 100mSv per year compared to anywhere from 1 mSv per year average to as much as 50mSv in some parts of the world as background radiation. It's elevated, but not a disaster if some of these cars are resold. That said, I wouldn't buy one.
