The day after mother's day, let's do a little reflection.
No, I'm not asking what you got for mother's day.

What "gifts" did your mother give to you?
In your upbringing, what little things did they teach you that you found useful to your adult life?

Big, little, seemingly inconsequential... they all add up.

    • LOVE...unconditional. I can't tell you how much that means. (and I've seen some mothers who are real messes)
    • Support. Boy, how much did she pulled my ass out of the fire.
    • Psychologist - she's a good friend and I can talk to her about "almost" anything. (there are some things a mom doesn't need to hear)
    • Love for books and knowledge (about anything and everything)
    • Consideration of others (polite, discretion and allowing others to have differences)
    • The ability to change and land on my feet
    • Knowledge of medicine (that comes in handy...especially L&D since that was her field...got taken to childbirth prep classes when she was teaching them)
    • How to care for others
    • Etc and so on...too many to tell. (I got lucky...especially since she did it all herself...my dad was not around)

  4. My mom was fucking amazing. She was hilarious. I have her to thank for my humo. She was supportive and loved so many people. She worked at my High School in the behavioral problem and disabilities classroom. A lot of those kids were acting out because they didn't have a parent that was as supportive as she was to my brothers and me.

She would have been 68 today.

My Mom gave me life. She also raised me by herself for most of my early life.

We were close when I was kid but as I grew older, I found her smothering and her idiosyncrasies intolerable (I also find her intolerance unbearable as well).

I live on the other side of the planet from her now. I try not to feel guilty about it (and mostly succeed).
