What type of exercise is your favorite?

I've always been a fan of running and other cardio activities. Just a little run makes a big difference in how my day plays out. I also like stretching. I do some yoga, but honestly it seems a bit silly to me. I really like Tai Chi, but I've never found a class setting that I can afford, and just working from videosmeans I'm pretty bad at it. I used to fence. Epee. I tell myself that I would go back to it in an instant, but honestly I doubt I ever will.

I came across this article, which may start a nice debate: Which Exercise is best?

What about you? What do you do for exercise? Why?

I prefer playing a sport to get exercise. I've never been a huge fan of running or lifting weights. I've done both, but I've never really enjoyed it.

I have a group of friends that plays Wallyball regularly. It's basically volleyball on a racquetball court, with a harder ball, and at a faster pace. Golf gives some limited exercise, but it's more about getting outside and enjoying the game than the walking you do while playing IMO. For 10-12 years after I got out of school I used to play in some fairly organized tackle football games almost every Sat from Sept - March. Obviously I'll take Stanley for walks too. But my primary enjoyment in getting exercise usually is tied to playing a game.

I bet that title was no accident......

I love cycling. Paved and lots of dirt road.
For 3 or 4 months every winter though I want to be cross country and back country skiing. This winter has been awful for those in the northeast.
So I've been cycling but not really feeling the love for it this winter.

I prefer yoga. Vinyasa flows. The kind that make you fall down into savasana at the end, with quivering muscles. I can do power and core, but I'm usually really sore afterwards. A strong vinyasa flow really rocks my world. Today, though, I'm going to indulge in something I don't do enough. I love to throw on my sneakers and walk on the beach... Wet sand on the way out, deep dry on the way back. Usually about 4 miles or so. It's a beast on the calves. But, it's pretty today.

I enjoy cycling but it hurts my box... A lot. Running exacerbates my headache for some reason. But nothing compares to those deep, painful stretches and holding a pose until you want to cry :)

Swimming, followed closely by hiking. I kinda hate running while I'm actually doing it, but I love how it makes me feel afterward.

I haven't done anything other than walking lately. When I get back into my gym routine, I do cardio (run/walk intervals or aerobics) three times a week, and strength training twice a week...although I may switch that.

I've never played that, and now I NEED to. That sounds amazingly fun.

Dang, I forgot about hiking. I don't get to do it enough, so I didn't think about it. Love hiking.

Here is a video demonstration, though there are a few times they kick the ball here, which isn't legal:

I forgot how much I love raquetball. It's exhausting. And super fun. I hope to play on a team with hubby sometime. If we stayed where we used to live, we would probably be on a team now.

I used to run quite a bit, at least six miles a day four times a week, and sometimes I go an extra three miles. FTR I had great legs & glutes, which were certainly useful for the exercise that Levite mentioned ;). Now that I'm ageing I prefer low impact cardio. As I understand it, speed walking* is very close to actually running but without the wear on the joints.

I actually enjoy yard work and veggie gardening. Having wooded property that required a lot of maintenance and plenty of room for a veggies garden would be great.

    * I saw a Robotman comic strip that made me LOL. Robotman and Monty are out speed walking. The balloon showed them both having the same thought, "I hope that I don't look as ridiculous as he does."

I've only played raquetball once, and it was absolutely terrifying. I think I'd like wallyball, though.

Sports for exercise isn't for me. I suck at anything that requires quick reactions, coordination, and depth perception.

This depends a bit - the course where I play is quite hilly. If you are pushing or carrying clubs for the 6-7km around the course, you will raise your heart rate significantly. I've just had a 10 week layoff and played for the first time yesterday and am noticeably sore today. I didn't realise how much squatting I normally do lining up putts etc. It is probably offset by the after round beer consumption, though.

I've noticed that I'm doing a lot less team sports. 45 years old and starting to notice two things - the injuries I had in my youth are starting to hurt now and playing high impact sports, you are much more likely to get injured now. Put me firmly in the hiking/golf category now please.

So does that mean masturbation is cardio?? ;)

    In the non-sex area...
    Swim
    Bike
At the gym, I really like core for some reason. ( If I'd stop eating so heartily, then I'd likely have a 6-pack, because I press a bit and easily)

If I had a studio and court, I'd do Karate and Basketball
