Venture Brothers, followed by Archer. I almost said Archer as my first choice. Archer is very funny, but the characters don't develop that much. However the seasons come consistently.
The Venture Brothers is a very well done show, with a deep level of characters that have grown and changed over time. Over the seasons, the depth of the show has improved. And the characters are still very funny. However, there have been 5 seasons over 12 years. The next season starts sometime next year. I can't wait. One last thing, it is the only tv series that I have bought seasons of.

    LOVE cartoons. :)
I was a SMC freak (Saturday Morning Cartoons - when they had them)
And I loved the reruns of T&J, Looney Toons, H-B

Scooby-Doo, Wacky Races, Jonny Quest, Space Ghost, etc...
But they had to be quality...no cheap stuff they tried to get away with. (even on the "established" characters)
Ex: Ever seen the difference between the classic Tom & Jerry and the brief cheap period??
(and nothing with fuckin' Scappy Doo)

Anime I was a bit more picky with...maybe just some movies and Battle of the Planets
And I liked any cartoon movie.

These days, I still prefer the classics (yep, still laugh at them)

Put them on Boomerang every day so my pup can watch them while I'm at work.
(I find dogs respond better to the higher pitched voices and vivid colors...kind of like kids do)
    Hey, she's my kid.

'Cause they're zany to the max!

I like that it's witty. There's some slapstick/violence, but it wasn't the main point of the show. Lots of fun pop culture references, songs about science/geography/history/math. And there was an international episode! "D'accord, je t'aime, au revoir, au revoir!"

...okay, now I want to go break out my DVDs and watch all of them again.

Love cartoons. One of the early dates with my wife was the Chicago Symphony accompanying WB cartoons. Solti and Bugs Bunny was a combination guaranteed to impress any date.

    Still prefer the vintage stuff.

    I'm kind of a fan.

Everyone loves Looney Tunes. I feel like it doesn't even count. I mean, not to say that Looney Tunes isn't great, but c'mon. It's definitely the safe option. Like someone asking you what your favourite type of pasta is and you say spaghetti. It's not bad, just kind of uninspired.

I used to be a bit embarrassed that I enjoyed animation. Like it's not grown up enough or something. Somewhere along the way I decided, fuck it. I have a grown up job with a grown up salary and grown up responsibilities. I have a dog a a car and a house. I'm plenty grown up. If some of my entertainment looks a little childish, whose business is it other than mine?

WB cartoons have zany slapstick as their stock in trade. It's what they do and they're very, very good at it. I think that's what creeps me out a little about the new Looney Tunes. They're not supposed to have continuity. It feels wrong, somehow.

I was born in 83 which means I was right around the right age to be in the target demographic in the early nineties when Steven Spielberg decided that he wanted to pump out a lot of really great animation. Freakazoid, Animaniacs, Tiny Toons, all fantastic. They all hold up quite well now, though they play as occasionally a bit juvenile. But, y'know, they're made for kids, so a bit juvenile is forgivable.

If I'm picking a favourite right now, it will be one of:

Gravity Falls, which is Twin Peaks with middle schoolers and more weird stuff thrown in, or

Steven Universe, which is the adventures of a group of lesbian space rocks on Earth with their Jewish stepson.

I usually prefer animated to live action these days.
I was obsessed with "Ben 10" when I first went to grad school. My nephews were really into it so I watched it once and decided it was great background while I read papers.

Recently I have been watching quite a bit of Wild Kratts with my daughter. One episode each morning.

I am not a fan of any cartoon that I've seen recently that's geared for girls. Littlegirly is drawn to them, but I haven't enjoyed them so we don't often watch them.

I never was 'seriously' into cartoons, even though I watched quite a few. As a really young kid I always thought that Jonny Quest was cool, but even back then I was aware that this escape fell into the Yeah-Right-Dream-On category.

These days I sometimes watch Jane and the Dragon on Sunday mornings. The animation is nicely done (if you ignore the fact that Dragon frequently changes size dramatically), and has pretty good stories. And the Queen is hot ;).

I enjoyed Ben 10. Never got around to any of the sequel series though.

"Cartoons for girls" have a long history of being terrible and are best avoided.

  11. I will always love The Simpsons. Mostly the first 10 seasons, but I have a special place in my heart for those characters.

My favorite poem and favorite telling of it.

I have a soft spot for the early Inspector Gadget - before they made him smart :(

  14. My childhood: the Hanna-Barbera universe of Yogi Bear, Quick Draw McGraw, Huckleberry Hound, Augie Doggie and Doggie Daddy. Then there was Mighty Mouse, Tom and Jerry and Underdog! Throw in the original Marvel animations of Spider Man, Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America and Thor. Add the Flintstones, Jetsons, Tom Terrific and so many more I don't recall just now.

The kings of them all were Rocky and Bullwinkle! They were epic! And their added features of Fractured Fairy Tales, Mr. Peabody and the between episode vignettes were the absolute best cartoon entertainment ever conceived! Even into my college years, I would hurry home to watch this show. It was even better then than when I was a kid; so much of their humor went over my head until exposed to my post-adolescent dirty mind. My friends and I would break down each episode over coffee in the student union and laugh our asses off.

I caught on to the Animaniacs and Pinky and the Brain through my kids, but few of the other cartoons they were watching entertained me. The Muppets and Fraggle Rock were much better, but that's not animation.

I enjoyed Futurama a lot. I binge watch that show on Netfix. Archer is great, I'm a fan. The Fox shows (Simpsons, Family Guy, etc) are OK for killing time, but I don't go out of my way to watch. I haven't paid attention to much else.

Unless it's She-Ra or Jem...but then, I know a lot of boys who watched those, too.

Hokey smoke! Rocky & Bullwinkle was also a favorite of mine. I watched them every morning in high school as I was getting ready. Fractured Fairy Tales was (is) one of the best things ever.

The Kranz version of Spider-Man from the 60s. It's the best cheese money can buy (and has some of the best soundtrack music going).

The Warner Brothers' Looney Toons are great, especially if you can get a hold the uncensored ones and/or the ones that were made pre-Hayes code. They were never made for TV, they were shorts meant to be screened before the feature.

There are a tonne of other great ones. I am sure if I sat down and came up with a list, I would find more to add a couple days later. One thing I will say, Flintstones aside, I'm not a big fan of Hanna Barbara, can't say why, just not my thing.

Y'all are reminding me of cartoons that I frequently watched, but forgot about.

    The Flintstones and Scooby Doo.

    -------------------

I didn't even think about cartoons aimed at adults.

King of the Hill. It's exaggerated, but it is so.....Texas. Gotta love how Hank says "tom landry" (no capitalization intentional) with religious-ish reverence.

The Simpsons. Very good, but I got burned out, haven't watched in years.

Futuroma. Really liked it, but wasn't a dedicated fan.

With no "pay" TV since the mid '80s, I missed out on quite a few "adult" cartoons.

I watch and enjoy a number of cartoons, mostly superhero stuff and the various Star Wars toons, sometimes Family Guy and Futurama but I don't love any of them. There have been very few cartoons that I have loved as an adult: Rocky & Bullwinkle, Animaniacs, The Simpsons are all that come to mind. There were cartoons I loved as a child, but my love for them didn't remain after I grew up (though I still feel sentimental about them): He-Man, Transformers, Scooby Doo, Robotech, Voltron, and various classic cartoons-- Tom & Jerry, The Pink Panther, and toons with Roadrunner and Wile E. Coyote, with Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck, etc.
