fflowley Don't just do something, stand there!

    Let's talk some smack here.
A year ago I could do about 15 pushups.
I've been working on it since then.
I can now do 40 or more consecutively.
If I break it into sets of 20 I can do 60.
Tell me you can do more. I dare you.
Who are the pushup king and queen of TFP?

  2. I did one once.

At my old dojo, we had one day each week where our master would go stupid on stamina development.

Part of it were 150 pushups, 100 situps, 50 quats, 150 pushups, 100 situps, 50 quats. As fast as possible. If you didn't keep up in pace, he'd give you a nice, juicy kick with his shin straight into the right side of your ribcage.

After a month of struggling and a black'n'blue right side, I got a hang of it. When I was at my fittest, I had one of those days where you simply can't sit still and have to move, move, move. I did 500 pushups in a row and then ran in the park for a while.

That was until 3 years ago, when I left Australia. Now I'm more than happy if I can manage 60 consecutive pushups.

Say what? Given the world record list for pushups, it seems unlikely that you actually did 500 pushups in a row... but cool story, bro. Tell it again.

Back in the dark ages, the United States Army physical fitness test consisted of three don't-really-judge-physical-fitness events: pushups, situps and a two mile timed run. For the pushup event, you were given two minutes to do as many perfect pushups as you could (down until upper arms parallel to the ground, up until arms locked out, torso kept straight). The rest position was the "up" position. Event was terminated if your torso touched the ground or if you lifted a hand or foot. Given that my triceps are like chicken nuggets, I always used the wide arm position to engage my chest.

    You mean these pushup records?

You're right, I tell some great stories.

One would think training between 2 and 4 hours on 5-6 out of 7 days a week for 4 years in a row would yield some results.

Post a YouTube video of you doing 250, hell, 150 with a "TFP 5.0" on your hand and I'll eat my hat. Otherwise? Get a Tavor and find some bears. My point: Insane fuckers doing 10k half-ass head-bob push-ups in 1980 is one thing. Claiming to do 500 as a 20 y.o. on an Web forum is another.

So, yeah, this guy is pretty impressive because he's doing it for real:

You did 5 times as many? Consecutively? That's a helluva claim.

    IT HAS BEGUN.

My upper body strength is for shit.

A friend is training for a white collar boxing match (she fights in less than a month) and had a bunch of us in this weekend to do an hour of training with her trainer. While I managed to get through the workout without barfing or passing out, I completely blew when it came to doing pushups. I managed a three or four. Then, after a lot of punching the heavy bag, my arms were mush. I am now, two days later, really feeling the pain. Jabbing with my weak arm took a lot of effort.

My legs, on the other hand, are not so bad.

Given my own experience with good physical condition in my youth, when 100 pushups in a row wasn't unusual, I can believe remixer's claim. Those martial arts guys are fanatics, and my brothers-in-law with black belts were in MUCH better shape than I was. They used to do them on their knuckles, which I found awkward, but not as difficult as the finger-tip ones we used to do (not the 100 in a row, they were limited to 20 at a time).

Pushups are alright, but they are boring as all get out. Pushup bras on the other hand certainly make things more interesting.

I've only done pushups when I had no access to weights. I'd do sets of 30, then sets of 15 for chinup, alternating. ( I was a lot lighter back then ) I'd rarely do more than 5 sets of each. To make them harder I would elevate my feet, or between benches to get a bigger stretch at the bottom. I've also done them with my kid on my back. She thought it was fun.

A few months ago I was trying to up the number of pushups I can do. I got up to about 45 and then the tendon in my elbow started hurting so I laid off for a while. I think it's pretty much back to normal now. Now I just have to get into the habit again.

Many moons ago when I was younger lad of 18 or so at bootcamp I could do the level past minimum for my age group of 18-24? which was a huge percentage us as you would expect. You had to do 60 (I think, too many years to recall exactly now) in two minutes to pass. I was somewhere around 80-90 back then.
These days I am probably in the single digit range before floundering and would be bombing that physical aptitude test from the Great Lakes days. Especially the running portion on days that it hurts me to just walk because of the knee(s). I suspect my left knee will be quitting on me first if I live long enough, but no worries here about such things.

non-stop, no time limit... i think i could get about 75 right now... prolly take about 3 minutes...

My best in less than 1 minute though is 68, done 2 years ago, followed by 62 situps in a minute, and 10:11 mile and half... the pillar of my own perfection, but still not what some of my peers can produce...
