what are your plans this year for turkey day???

my wife texted me the other day and asked how many vacation days I had til the end of the year, I knew something was up, but I asked and I have 4 vacation days and 3 sick days. so that night I go home and tell her. she wants to know what I think about taking a vacation thanksgiving week. I replied "why"
come to find out she had already done her research and I told her I didn't care but im not a beach person, and she knows this. so I booked it

so apparently we are going to myrtle beach SC thanksgiving week. its the same place that her, my mom and my daughter go every year during the summer. not real fond of it but I never go on vacation and im a home body. this is way outside my box. so we will see. we haven't told family yet or even my daughter yet so we will see how that goes.

    wish me luck

    @Ralphie250,

C'mon, Myrtle Beach is awesome. Hit that chain steakhouse next to the big mall for cheap beers at lunch. It's the off season so much sure you double-check all the hours on stuff before you go out. And walks on the beach at night are always fun.

    ...

As far as Thanksgiving this year? I'll be back at work. It'll be like any other day.

When I'm home we often skip the family stuff and have turkey dinner at Denny's.

I honestly haven't decided yet. I switch off every year, and this year would normally be Thanksgiving in NC and Christmas in OH. My brother in the Marines may be home right before Thanksgiving, though, so if that holds true, I'll be doing Thanksgiving up there again.

Thanksgiving in NC means heading over to Eden's mom's. Someone unfailingly makes a joke about whether I want a big slab o'turkey, I always smile politely and awkwardly laugh. I usually take two side dishes that are met with varying reactions. Everyone loved the fruit & maple dip; but there's always leftover baked beans. I made a chili-cheese dip over the summer that was devoured within about 20 minutes, so I may end up taking some of that again, even though it's really better suited for cookouts. Might do a carrot & apple casserole that I recently discovered a recipe for...hmmm.

Thanksgiving in Ohio used to be a huge affair with extended family, but that's kind of dwindled over the years. Last year, it was just me & Mom (dad & stepmom were out of town...at the beach, now that I think about it), but she put a lot of thought and preparation (she wouldn't let me help!) into our meal, and it was fantastic.

I've never taken a holiday vacation, but Eden & I have been tossing around the idea of taking a cruise over Christmas. Good luck (and have fun!) at the beach. Even if you aren't a beachy person, you can still take full advantage of the hotel/condo/whatever and hit Full Relaxation Mode.

My wife is the family social director. I have no idea what I am doing on Thanksgiving. My wife and daughters will negotiate things and I'll show up wherever I'm told to be.

its a resort, it has its own peir and mini gold and stuff from what ive herd over the years. I know that I just need to suck it up and have fun but nobody wants to see the fat guy at the beach. it will be a real experience. normally its my mom, and my sister in law and us at my house. not sure how my mom will take it, who knows she may end up tagging along

No idea. Things are coming together. It has the potential to be particularly stressful and fraught this year. I'm going to start making pie dough soon.

Dad and I just chatted over the phone about this. We both considered traveling to see each other. We'll see how things fall into place. I'd rather have Thanksgiving in our new home, but as long as we see some family somehow I will be happy.

I think it would be pretty awesome for everyone if your dad came to you. New memories.

Thanksgiving is long over but Thanksmas is on the horizon.

My wife has decided that this year's theme is Mexican. With 65 people coming, I have decided that build your own burrito/taco is the way to go.

Probably going to my ex's house to hang with my kiddos.
She and I get along well enough so it won't be a bad evening all things considered.
