My dad has been wanting us to meet him and my mom at this local gastro-pub type place they found a few months back. We finally are getting around to it tonight, and I just checked the beer list. Pretty respectable.

I love me some Hop Slam by the bottle, so I'll have to have one on tap. Next will be to figure out what else to try. :D

Anything I can get from Dogfish Head makes my day.
Just had the Vanilla Porter on Tuesday, it was awesome.
And getting Hopslam on draft is a feat.
And uncharted might be able to give more feedback.
I think he digs the Sumpin Sumpin, or I might be confusing it with Sumpin Wild.

At the risk of making you almost as jealous as you are that I have Stanley trying to cuddle with me non-stop, I have exactly 18 Hop Slams currently in my garage fridge. But I've not had it on tap.........yet. Probably be my first choice of the evening.

I was eyeing that DFH too. I just didn't know if I wanted to choose that at the expense of having 2-3 of something else. But I usually love DFH. Have you had Fort yet? Any comments?

Hopslam on draft was freaking awesome. And it's not really my preferred type of beer. I also liked So Fresh and So Green Green, but I don't remember who does it.
I don't know if we've had Fort yet... uncharted went to the brewery last year on the Epic East Coast Brewery Guys Trip in an RV that ended at Savor.
I'll ask him. I grab two bottles of their Robert Johnson's Hellhound On My Ale whenever I see it.

I love hoppy beers. The hoppier the better usually.

    I just realized the Chimay's was a 101oz bottle!!! :p

Are you a hophead? This could go two ways. Start with ales/lagers/etc. then finish into IPA's. IPA's tend to trash the palate. Lagunitas little sumpin' ale, hopslam, then stone ruination. You should have a pretty good buzz by then. Honestly...if I found Hopslam on draft again, it would be the only thing I drank that day/night...and I'd drink a lot of it. It's fucking amazing, topped only by Russian River's offerings ( Pliny the Elder/Younger ).

I am a hop head, but I like a wide variety of stuff. I appreciate the input. :)

  8. What a great selection! Could camp at this place for a month!

Echo on the Bell's, and I've enjoyed any Founder's brews I've come across.

Don't overdo it on the hoppy, like uncharted said--not only will it obliterate your tastebuds for more beer, but it can give you a terrible headache the next day.

The Ovila Quad from Sierra Nevada is pretty tasty on tap. I'm sad that the only beer on there from Oregon is Rogue. Not my favorite.

    How did it go?
I had Hopslam in my dreams last night.
Partly because the bottles have arrived somewhere in Jax
and a friend posted pictures to taunt people.

Thanks all for the input. :)

I had a few beers and the bartender was kind enough to let me taste a couple others without ordering an entire beer.
    HopSlam is great on tap.
    Three Floyds Dreadnaught was awesome.
Monk's Flemmish Sour was too sour.
Allagash White was good, but more wheaty than I prefer.
Three Floyds Gumballhead was very good. Exact definition of a session beer IMO.
Stone Ruination Double Dry Hopped was maybe my favorite of the group.

    Sounds like you did well...

i tell ya, i know its pricy, but the Chimay is going to be worth every penny. Brewed my Trappist Monks, and wonderful... i can get the white, and red labels back home, around 15.00 for a 6 or 8 oz bottle, cant remember. if that bottle is 120.00 then it must be one of their best... ive had a blue label chimay before, but that MUST be something different. my old man and i usually get one red, adn one white, split them as a finish to a session of beer sampling.

i used to pick a beer, have a 6-pack at a party or gathering, you know, social drinking... anymore, its usually me and the old man tasting a few, and shootin' the shit. age... good for people and booze...

oh! just noticed 101 oz! that is the blue ive had before for sure... but as is i said before , it doesnt take much... a bottle that large will serve a group of 10-15... its not one you wanna drink a lot of, hoppy, very full flavored, and has a quality that lingers. make it your finish in a large group...

would probably be appropriate if you find yourself needing/wanting to make a courteous gesture at am appropriate gathering, i.e. Rotary/elks/mason's/civic club galla/anniversary/inauguration ceremony...

Yes, I've had the red and blue Chimays before. Good stuff, the bottle they had was the same as the regular blue, just a massive bottle of it. Definitely a thing for a party or group like you said.

I was greatly impressed by the place. It was tiny, in a strip mall, and you'd drive right by it if you didn't know to stop. But the food was absolutely fabulous, very good quality and very tasty. My steak literally could've been served in a Morton's or Ruth's Chris and would've still been considered excellent. All of the appetizers we shared were good, and everyone loved their meals. The beer choice was obviously superb, and the bartender was great. When we sat down the waitress was only so-so, but adequate. Everything else was absolutely top notch.

I love it when I get to taste a beer without trying a whole pint. At the beer festival we went to on Friday, I probably tried upwards of 20 different beers because when my friends and I tackle a beerfest, we are strategic about what we try and who tries what, so that we can share a bit, especially with more alcoholic beers (i.e. bourbon barrel beers, strong ales, barleywines of all stripes). The winner of the night was New Belgium/Elysian Brewing's collaboration called Trip XI, a rosemary-sage farmhouse. It was so different than any of the other beers we tried that night that it was downright refreshing.

Our favorite beer place in St. Augustine does 8oz beers. I love it. I can drink more of a variety without getting more full or drunker than I want to.

I know we have a decent group here in the general area of Chicago. This place is in the far south suburbs, so here is a link to Tribe's Alehouse if anyone is interested in checking it out.

This place might be a bit easier for someone visiting Chicago, and we loved it (thanks to roachboy for the recommendation): http://hopleaf.com/
