What do you think of this:

That, my friends, is a deep-fried Twinkie burger. I hope your arteries aren't hardening just from looking at it.

wow. it's a dissonance-producing photo. it looks like it should be really good, but you know it's really...um....ok so this is where the dissonance comes in.

lately i've been into making pork adobo because i like that it has handfuls of peppercorns in it.

and at the moment, i'm enjoying an oban 14 and considering the matter of making a lamb stew.

See, I don't think something like a burger would go well at all with something sweet that's been fried.

    My official reaction is: Ew.

It also seems like a lot of restaurants are trying to outdo each other when it comes to things like this. "What is the most over-the-top-thing we can come up with? And how can we advertise so that you don't care about eating eight million calories in one sitting?"

    Ugh.

the sweet-savory thing can work brilliantly...fried chicken with waffles for example, if done correctly, is awesome.

my brain stalls out at eating a twinkie.

Yeaaah, Twinkies are gross. I did recently try a deep fried Oreo. It didn't suck, but I'll probably never have one again.

I wonder what kind of toppings you could put on this? Mayo and/or ketchup just don't seem like they'd work at all.

Yeah, I'm sorry, but that's gross. I don't mind mixing sweet and savory, but I am not a huge fan of random fried stuff, nor a huge fan of twinkie-style snack cakes (can't have actual twinkies, because they're not kosher) and I cannot imagine wanting to deep fry them, much less serve a burger on them.

The closest I've come is using a sweeter bread for hamburger buns. Haven't been able to find a Hawaiian bread that's not dairy (which means I can't have meat with it), but I've used challah rolls from a local bakery that are so sweet they're almost more cakey than bready. That was almost too much for me. I'd rather work my sweet into the combo in other ways, like sweet pickle relish or bread and butter pickle chips, or a sweet barbecue sauce, or beef bacon with a maple glaze as a garnish.

I think it would probably be great with a maple bar (longjohn).

Oooh, ooh, what about peameal bacon sandwiched between maple bars? OMG that sounds amazing. Voodoo's already done regular bacon on a maple bar. I want a sandwich with peameal bacon instead.

I'm still trying to figure out how people think of these things. Or why. Deep-fried Twinkies? Really? WTF??

Deep fried Twinkies on a stick are delicious. (Ask ThePriseInferno - he and his striped friends are experts)

I'll take your word for it. How about sandwiched around some pork, beef, cheese, bacon and assorted condiments?

That I'm more hesitant about. But I will live and die by deep fried Twinkies.

RB, the Oban 14 is nice, but I highly recommend sampling the Glendronach if you can find it. Start with the 12, and move from there to the 15 and the 18. Sherry so thick you can't miss it, but still light and elegant-tasting.

  13. Aaahhh, Winter Carnival. That's coming up already, a few months away.
You planning on coming up in February? If so, try to bring DamnitAll if you can. Too much awesomeness not to share.

Also, I'm preferable to the deep fried Snickers, myself. Never was a big fan of Twinkies.

    ...

This is strangely reminiscent of the Luther Burger from yore. I remember my family making them when I was still in high school and promising me that they'd be tasty, but I took one bite, and this was its fate:

Call me traditional, but I'll take my burger on a bun of some sort.

EDITED for language because I'm paranoid about people thinking I'm making demands about people

The fried Twinkies are absolutely gross. I'd make the "bun" out of thin pounded chicken parmesan or medallions of pork loin adobo. A great low carb high fat high protein treat.:)
