I immersed myself in her works as a high school student in AP English. Did a whole project on here after Clinton's inauguration speech. Her work is mind-blowingly beautiful and harsh and evocative. The rain is apropos.

I can't say I'm that familiar with her work, but I do know the impact she has had as an activist, and I appreciate the influence she has had on others.

The world needs more people like her.

Her body of work is full of very powerful stuff. I've always loved her ability to delve into the intensely personal, to open herself up to others so that they could see, live, feel, and understand her experience. Maya Angelou accomplished that in a very unique way.

Whenever someone so eloquent passes away, I feel that we're all diminished to some extent. It's like the world loses a piece of its collective soul.

This made me really sad and I just don't have the words to describe the loss.
