I think I may have posted about this in 4.0.

A new(ish) game company (around 2006 or so) called 38 Studios is developing this title.

They were initially pumping a kind of dream-team angle, and talked about coming up with a next-gen MMORPG based on the idea of taking all the good stuff and adding what's currently missing. I'll set that aside for now.

In the meantime, they're developing this game due for release February 7, 2012.

    The "dream team":

Plus the developers at Big Huge Games:

Based on this and the videos, what do you think of this upcoming title?

I think there is a lot of potential here. The game is like a single-player WoW with its open-world concept. It's not like Oblivion or Skyrim if you consider the gameplay. Maybe a bit more like Diablo? (I'm not that familiar with the Diablo franchise.) [EDIT: 38 Studios founder Curt Schilling (yes, the ball player) said that the style of the game would be a marriage between God of War and Oblivion.]

Anyway, I hope this does well. It looks like a good concept. Plus, it might be the company's proving ground/troubleshooter for development of their MMORPG (I shall create a separate thread for this eventually).

    Looks like a fun game.
I remember seeing these guys interviewed on E3 footage last Summer and not really understanding their vision, but now I can see they might be on to something good.
A lot of talent and work put into this.

Hopefully, they put some thought into the text for the menus that they'll invariably use.
With my smaller tv (20" digital crt), a lot of the games I try to play are ruined because of small text that I can't read.

38 Studios....that's Curt Schillings company. He's finally got a finished product. Good for him. He was talking about this towards the end of his career with the Red Sox back in '07.

I finally got around to playing the demo for this.

    Want!

It got good reviews, and seems to be the kind of package I want. I think I may even enjoy it more than Skyrim. The thing with Skyrim is that it's got so much detail and management. This game looks more like a cross between Skyrim, Diablo, and World of Warcraft.

The reviewer at IGN loved it.

Oh, I ran it on my PS3. I have a feeling I'm about to go hardcore on the PS3 soon. My gaming options on the PC are certainly dwindling.

Truth be told, my PS3 has been relatively neglected. I have so many games to finish/start that I won't be getting Kingdoms any time soon. Hopefully, it will be cheap when I do get it. That's how I tend to get my games.

The selling point here is the gameplay. The reviewer above claims that Kingdoms' gameplay is so kick-ass that it puts other games "to shame."

Unless some other developer picks this up, I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for it.
38 Studios went belly up 2 weeks ago.

Aw, shit. I guess I should just go back to reading the legends of Drizzt Do'Urden. :(

Ah well...38 Studios was a one-hit wonder at least!

What a shame. There was a lot of potential even if there wasn't a lot of solvency.

The sad thing is that Schilling apparently lost all the money he made from his baseball career. He did it doing something he loved and believed in. He did it well on the creative end. It's too bad the ball dropped on the business end.

Oh, it has crossed my mind too. I at least want to revisit the first couple of trilogies, and maybe decide whether to continue from there.

I read the Icewind Dale Trilogy not long after it came out, and the Dark Elf Trilogy pretty much as it came out. I didn't continue after that, for whatever reason.

However, this list might be more useful/informative to you: The Legend of Drizzt series by R.A. Salvatore
